A nice gesture from the British Parliament

The motion read: "That this house notes with sadness the death of rugby league legend Arthur 'Artie' Beetson; remembers that 'Artie' played for Hull Kingston Rovers with great distinction and has left a legacy in East Hull that has not diminished over the years; further notes that he was named in the team of the century and is a member of the Rugby League Hall of Fame; recognises that he went on to be the first Aboriginal to captain any Australian national sporting team; further recognises his inspiring effect on indigenous Australians, encouraging many to take up not only sport but education and employment opportunities; and expresses its deepest sympathy to his family."

Arthur Henry Beetson Tribute

Thanks for the post Mortar.

How do you stop that close to the line?

You need numbers in the tackle or else big Artie would have steam rolled his way over, only for him to pop a freakish offload to someone unmarked.

Inside the 10m zone he would arguable have been the most dangerous player on the field - not bad for a prop!

Nice touch from the British parliament too.

It's great to see a rugby league legend's life celebrated in this way.

Kudos to all involved.

I believe it is being televised live, but I am with you, can't find it advertised anywhere. I'll poke a few people & see what I find out.

The public will be able to celebrate Beetson's life and playing career a special memorial service at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday which will be televised by Channel 9 and relayed to his Sydney fans on big screens at a service at the SCG.

Hard to find details however Triple M have twittered this:
Reminder to get your free ticket to Arthur Beetson public memorial on Sunday at Suncorp Stadium. Contact the Stadium or Ticketek

There was a suggestion of free public transport but as I said, hard to find info unless someone can find it for me?

At for the SCG for people's info:

The Tigers, Men of League, the National Rugby League, Sydney Roosters and the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust will host the public event to coincide with a memorial service being held at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.

The service will commence at 1pm (12pm Queensland time) and will feature tributes from Indigenous leaders, former team-mates and entertainers as well as a video tribute from Channel Nine.
Gates will open from 12.00pm, entry via Gate A. Parking is available at the MP1 Carpark, Fox Studios and off street, Driver Avenue.

Please note that this is a non ticketed alcohol free event and as such there is no charge for entry and no need to RSVP. Simply make your way to the Members Stand when you arrive and look for the “Reserved” signage.

We look forward to this very special tribute to a true legend.

Went to the SCG today for the Artie tribute and it was simply brilliant.

Peardy was first class as per usual and we were even treated to a walk on the hallowed turf and the Members Pavillion.

Lots of legends there to celebrate the life of a great Australian.

Got out to Suncorp myself.

It was an awesome tribute to a great man.

Wally shared a few classic stories.

Wish I could have heard Peardys speech at the SCG. Always enjoy his speeches.

It's terrific to see an icon of the game get his deserved recognition. The game really won't be quite the same without the big fella around

I was there and mate, it was nothing but gold....non stop.....he got quite emotional too as did I when he got a standing ovation after his speech.

He's not in bad shape despite his strokes....walking without a stick and his voice is as clear as.

Geez it was a great day and I'm so glad I made the effort to go.

anyone know of any copies of the video anywhere.

Not a word about it was mentioned on the news in Melbourne, and the tribute wasn't shown either.
