Ashes Cricket 2009

I got excited then I read that it was codemasters, who haven't done a good game since SWC '99.

They went from having ALL major stadiums in 2005 to having "Most stadiums." Dissappointing.

I would actually settle for RPIC 2005 repackaged if they fixed the annoying bugs.

Definately a try before I buy since the graphics usually look smart enough but the game play is horrible.

I really think arcade + cricket will never really work. I would love to see a cricket game that has the action, but you don't control the intricacies of bowling or batting. You kind of setup the team and manage them, and then on the field act as captain. You have to set the field, pick the bowlers and maybe you can tell your bowler to keep it tight, or get him hooking, or whatever.

Then at the end of each over, or every few overs, you have a mock discussion with the keeper and a couple of other senior players and they make some bland comment like "we need to get him driving, there is life in the wicket" or "get the spinner onto him, he can't play spin" ... remarks that sometimes get the result and other times don't work at all.

There's not as much you could do during batting, maybe control the running or the aggressiveness of shots against certain bowlers, but still... I just think that would make for a more endearing cricket game than trying to control everything, and wouldn't be as boring as a management game where you set everything up and then the match just unfolds on its own accord more or less.

Codemasters - no thanks.

The original Brian Lara and Shane Warne cricket games in the mid 90s were magnificant, as was the 99 version but every other version has been a complete waste of space. In the last two games after playing it for an hour you could hit any ball, no matter where pitched or on what level over mid wicket for six.

The one thing I really enjoyed was the updated bowling though. It was probably the best game where I enjoyed bowling though, the good use of swing was great.

But overall I wont get too excited about this one.

Gotta be honest, I've really been waiting for a cricket game for the PS3. Kotaku say it's fully licensed by the ICB too so all the real names and kits :D.

Graphics look pretty nice too.

Not quite correct. The game is only licensed by the ECB and Cricket Australia. EA's game (which they deny is in production) is fully licensed by the ICC hence having world cup, T20 world cup and champions trophy events.

So is this only going to have the option to play the ashes and exhibition? Probably a classic ashes moments in there too im guessing.

LMAO

That is the secondest funniest commentary glitch of all time. Funniest one I came across was I loaded a saved game on Cricket 2002 and had Malcolm Marshall hit a four and Richie said:

"And he's off the mark....there's his fifty."

Wonder if you'll be able to get patches for it off Planet Cricket. Like what I do for BLIC2005
