Better for our chances, for sure. I'm much less worried by Qatar than I am by Iraq. Just a pity Syria conceded late rather than grabbing a third goal. That would have put them through ahead of a much stronger UAE lineup.

SO the "group of death" see's Australia and Qatar go through..

Didn't see that coming before it started... Good on them.. The Qatar fans are pretty happy atm..

Iraq's elimination really does give us one less potential hurdle to deal with. They might not have a squad of world class athletes, but the conditions their home games are played in plus their tactics seem to be our achilles heel. Would much rather play a Qatari side we're up 6-1 against in recent matches.

The rest getting through are no real surprises. Final make-up of the fourth round is:

Australia
Qatar
Japan
Bahrain
Korea Republic
Korea DPR
Uzbekistan
Saudi Arabia
Iran
UAE

Of those, I'd worry about Japan, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Saudi Arabia. We can't draw Korea Republic in the first round which is something of a shame, as I'd rather play them then either of the two latter sides. And I'd get to see us play

UAE, Korea DPR, Bahrain, and Qatar really shouldn't trouble us.

An ideal group for us would be:
Australia
Japan
Bahrain
Korea DPR
Qatar

But we could very well end up with
Australia
Japan/Iran
Saudi Arabia/Japan
Uzbekistan
UAE

And be proper f**ked

I'm in South Korea, so I'm an hour behind. Only 3.30am here. I generally sleep 4am to 1pm. Work hours permit it, thank Christ. New girl means I'm up later more often. I'm a zombie at work

I remember watching the Oly-roos in Gosford last year and was amazed at the lack of technique, wtf are they teaching our kids these days.

I thought the advent of full-time professionalsm would help these guys with there touch but apparently not.

Bruce Djite - Looks like tarzan, plays like Jane after she's taken 5 panadeine forte's
Nick Topor-Stanley - Looked sh*t in Gosford and hasnt improved since then.

Bloody hell. What a boring match. The Chinese diving team out there didn't help... they really were pathetic. Is it just me, or are the Asian nations as a collective far worse at diving than their European neighbours? The worst part is the referee was actually fooled by the vast majority of them.

I thought Kewell's whining was worse.

How anyone can complain about anything else besides what Pim dished up last night is beyond me.

So, our four opponents will come from five ME countries, two Asian countries and Uzbekistan

It's pretty likely that we'll end up with at least two Middle-Eastern opponents (hopefully Qatar is one of them). The experience gained from playing over there in the past few weeks will be quite valuable, I'm guessing

Saudi Arabia look to be the biggest danger, so if we can avoid them we're a huge chance

I'm rather hoping that Pim will have another opportunity to dog the supporters this time...

I'm sure he'd love to have qualification sealed come those two home games.

I think its great to go into the final qualification phase with two home games up our sleeve. Hopefully the draw is kind, and we have the two weakest sides in our group as our last two games. Be very nice knowing we should get 6 points from our last 2....

The Brother in law, myself and four kids all went to the game. The one comment my brother in law made as we left the ground. What a f**king waste of several hundred dollars that was.

And he was right!

Exactly the point I've tried to make. Verbeek did Australian football no favours by serving up such a shoddy team and a dull match in front of 70,000 people.
