I just hope the club is looking & planning beyond Hook’s tenure and they source the best Assistants, not just non threats to the Head coach role.
We don’t need more done the rounds assistants with zero success rate, but are cheap.
Pay the best and target the best. Come on WIN!
That's what I say. No use beating around the bush as they say. Just get the best.

The 'forgotten' man in this assistants sacking is Russ Aitken, coach (hmmm) of the KOE Cup squad and let's face it, the reggies team isn't firing at all given the standard of players that role up each week. No pressure really on anyone in 1st grade imo. There was some chat about Talau being 'promoted' in his role of coach, so it wouldn't surprise me to see Willie coaching the reggies squad next year. Just my opinion of course.

The sacking, if you could call it that, of Gentle and Head is a well overdue initiative. I wonder if this has been in the pipeline for a while or just a recent conclusion.

As far as Hooks' assistants next year, I think, and only my opinion, that Flanno will be one. His eye on the prize so to speak. The other assistant, well there will be a plethora of choices by seasons end. There are very good ex-coaches, on, or even coming on the market, with Holbrook and O'Brien more than likely struggling to hold their jobs by seasons end. Barrett won't return to us in a hurry. Green is probably a front-runner if one or both of Holbrook and O'Brien aren't in their respective clubs next year. Brown and Hannay seem settled as assistants already in Parra and the Sharks. Ryles is just waiting for the Storm job after Bellamy 'retires'. There's also Madge Maguire, who would be an interesting appointment, given his 'style'.

Personally, I would pump for Holbrook. I think he's a very good coach, let down by his team at present. Failing that, Potter has seemingly got the Dogs firing in attack.

So, my 'coaching team next year would be (imo only):
HC - Griffin
Assistant defense - Flanno
Assistant attack - Holbrook/Potter
KOE Cup coach - Talau
JF - ?

I'm still hoping our coaching staff will be:
Flanno
Brown
Barrett
Possm- I know Brown and Barrett are ex St George men but the main thing they have in common is that they have recent multiple failures as Head Coaches-surely one of the reasons for appointing an assistant is that they can step in, if needed, and take over in the event that the Head Coach is not performing -or some other kind of misadventure. I would understand if you were advocating for Jamie Soward and he would be an acceptable alternative to Hannay for mine. Barrett and Brown are history imo.

Can someone in the know clarify what the go is with Flanno ? Looking for assistant coach to help out and maybe take over if things don't work out with Hook ..... Wouldn't Flanno be the obvious choice or is he off to coach some where else ? Someone that knows can you shed some light here .....
