Got tickets for final and semis and Aus v Fiji. Last one cost me £70 - quite pricey. Thinking of NZ v Ireland but £50+ to sit for this one. The Coventry venue baffles me. On whole, think pricing bit high considering current economic conditions, but guess these couldn’t have been foreseen when first released.

With eight days to go until opening fixture of Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021) at St James’ Park, organisers have today released final details of what fans can look forward to in Newcastle at the Official RLWC2021 Fan Village on the Quayside over the opening weekend.

Opening from 14:00 to 22:00 on Friday (14th) and 11:00 to 22:00 on Saturday (15th), fans and residents will be treated a whole host of fantastic entertainment options, as the party atmosphere comes to Newcastle’s Quayside.

For fans looking to experience Newcastle’s iconic quayside from a unique perspective, the Official RLWC2021 Fan Village will feature the famous zip line across the River Tyne. Tournament organisers are advising those fans wanting to experience the zip line, to book in advance via this link, as the activation requires booking confirmation, and is likely to sell out. Supported by Metro Radio, the Official RLWC2021 Fan Village will run from underneath the Tyne Bridge, through to the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. Boasting attractions for people of all ages, the RLWC2021 Fan Village will have a range of family-friendly activities, food and drink stalls, activations from RLWC2021 partners, music and big screens, plus a huge fireworks display on Saturday evening to complete the festivities.

Newcastle is known for the passionate support of its sports loving fans, and the city has a fantastic track record for delivering fan activations with the RWC2015, and the 2019 European Rugby Finals, setting UK records for fan zone attendances.

Earlier this week, RLWC2021 announced the Kaiser Chiefs as the headline act at St James’ Park in what is expected to be the biggest, best and most inclusive Rugby League World Cup in history.

That is just embarrassing when you compare the TOTAL apathy from the NRL, ARLC, Australian Rugby League media and State Governments in the 2017 RLWC..

Hopefully with France locked in for 2025 it would be great if 2029 could go somewhere other than Australia, maybe just NZ?

Black are bays that appear to have sold out around the ground. Encouragingly we know there is very limited capacity in the East Stand and most of the lower bowl. Possibly most concerning is Cat D on Level 7 has not gone on sale.

I did enjoy sneaky sound system at a very underwhelming fan festival in brisbane before the final lol

Confirmed that over 40,000 have been sold for the opener.

"I can confirm that attendance number will definitely start with a four. We're not done either, we're seeing tickets still being sold for that game. One in every two tickets that are being bought right now are being bought by locals."

Australia v Fiji appears to have stalled around the 10K mark which is disappointing.

If there`s a big crowd at the opener with great optics for the tv viewing audience then that will more than compensate if the second game is a bit disappointing on the crowd front.
I went through the draw last night and have to admit that a lot of games didn`t really grab me and I fear non-League fans may have a similar view.
The good news is that there are a few spicy ones that may grab the public`s attention and once we get through to the quarters every game has the potential to be a beauty. Then we may hopefully really start to see the general public get on board for those last 3 weeks. Fingers crossed.

The games on BBC One are the most important to have big crowds at, as they'll just draw the biggest audiences naturally by being on the primary channel and often include England.

Thankfully we know England v Samoa is on track for 40K+ in a 49K capacity venue, England v France is currently at 23K+ in a 28K venue, the England Quarter Final is meant to be selling well and the Final has sold over 50K+ as well, so we're in an alright position.

England v Greece needs some momentum... having Dutton describe it as being in a 'decent space' does not inspire confidence. The Semi just needs England and for no one to do anything silly in the tournament to turn any coverage from positive to negative (can we ensure Ralph Rimmer is locked away until the tournament is over?)

I do hope the BBC Two games can look relatively full... I'm a bit concerned with seated sections being back on sale at Headingley for Australia v Fiji. Scotland v Italy is looking okay at Kingston Park with there not being many grandstand seats left, hopefully there is a bit of a flow over from the opener to this game, Jamaica v Ireland says it is low availability, but I can buy anywhere, whilst Wales v Cook Islands at Leigh, unfortunately I find Leigh's ground always looks bad on TV, even if it's nearly full...

Just got this email from the RLWC team:

Saturday 15 October is set to become the biggest opening day attendance for any Rugby League World Cup held in the Northern hemisphere, with tickets for England vs Samoa and Australia vs Fiji selling fast.

St James’ Park has now sold out of Cat B tickets, with only limited tickets left in hospitality, Cat A and Cat C.

The East Stand, Leazes East Corner and Gallowgate East Corner are completely sold out. The iconic Gallowgate Stand at the south end of the stadium and the Leazes Stand (lower bowl) are both 98% sold out, with a handful of tickets remaining in both stands.

Over at Headingley, the East Stand is completely sold out and only a handful of seats are left to purchase. The opening Headingley fixture, St James’ Park and the Tonga v Papua New Guinea clash in St Helens on Tuesday 18th October remain the current top three selling fixtures over the last seven days.
