Another reason to think that the much mooted broadcast deal is not what it is trumped up to be!

This should have been on free to air television as I know many people (casual sports fans)whom still are not aware of it happening.

Just as T-20 cricket moved to free to air coverage so should the Auckland Nines! The audience will quadruple which make a lot of marketing sense! And great for the games exposure in the big scheme of things.

Maybe free to air but not ch9. Ch9 would only show it in NSW and QLD. Hardly a good way to grow the game.

I went over with a mate and we loved it! For an inaugural event, with massive numbers of people on both days, everything ran so smoothly imo. Bus pickups from Queens street to Eden park all flowed well. Didn't have to wait more than 2 mins once we boarded till the bus took off (and only a 10-15min trip).
Didn't really drink a whole lot at the ground, but thought them slowly rolling back the amount of alcohol you could purchase throughout the day minimized dickheaded behavior. Only saw 2 instances (not including that streaker lol) over the 2 days where we were seated, and they were quickly escorted out.
Then on the way back to Queens it was a quick 5 min walk an straight on a bus for a quick trip to the pub.
Hats off to the organisers/Auckland council, they absolutely smashed it! Needless to say, I've already got a few more lads wanting to book a trip next year ;)

Keary and Mullen gone for months. There's two teams entire preseasons ruined. Coote and others also.

I enjoyed the 9s but I hope next year my team does not play any important 1st grader.

Exact same thing could of happened if it was just a regular trial game weekend

This. My team no longer has any chance whatsoever of doing anything this year because of an injury in the nines. But it could've happened in a trial or the 1st Round. It was a freak accident.

Coote was going to get injured at some point or another, just because it was a nines game and not round 1 or 2 doesn't change shit. In fact it gives Green a bit of time to choose a replacement before the season kicks off.

Anyone rubbishing the nines just because a couple of injuries happened doesn't understand football.

Bro calm down Mullen hasn't even finished seeing doctors yet.

But I do agree with the sentiments that you can't blame the nines for injuries. Mullen did his when he was just running, could have just as easily happened while doing sprints at training. Shit happens etc.

The difference is when your playing a trial, there is tangible benefits to be gained from it. Match fitness, combinations with halves and putting on some early form that can all translate into round 1.

Absolutely nothing about the 9's is translatable, with exception of maybe some confidence in getting some wins, but that would be eroded the moment you realised none of these sides were full strength.

I love the 9's, i really enjoyed the weekend and hope it sticks around but it's going to be hard when this happens.

The knights got paid 20k more than us to lose Mullen for 4 months... Im pretty happy with Stuarts decision to send a 2nd rate team and based on the attitude they played with clearly gave them only one instruction - "Dont get hurt"

more injuries will happen playing 9s then Allstars. if i was a club coach i would prefer the Allstars concept because i would only be required to send two player compared to 9s. They need to make 1-2 million for wining 9s. its too much risk for sending a team to win few thousands Dolloars.

Are people forgetting that Halatau, Kahu and James all suffered injuries the week before in trials? People are going to get hurt in contact sports, when it happens is just unfortunate.
