Check out the Japanese lagers like Kirin, Sapporo, Asahi etc. Good thirst quenchers in the warm weather and won't bloat you up.

I second that, although I dunno if they may be a bit pricey for the lads especially in Port Douglas....if so, it's pretty hard to go past Carlton Dry or Coopers Clear. Boring as batshit, I know, but affordable and very sessionable.

Needs to find somewhere with parallel imports.

Had the James Squire American Pale Ale on tap at uni the other day, not a bad beer, reminded me of Sierra Nevada (unsurprisingly I guess).

I had a pint on Thursday night, not bad but was bloody expensive at $12 a pop!

under $5 a schooner at uni, not bad.

Not sure how people deal with sydney beer prices all the time. Can still get a schooner under $5 most places around here (comfortably under $5 in some cases).

I don't drink very much beer at all these days, but I still love the Japanese Beers. Just loved the way you can buy it on the street up there out of dispensing machines, as you can with Whiskey.

It's not as common as it once was, but still can be done. Mostly inside hotels and the like. Far fewer on the street these days.

I had not been in a pub for about 15years but have recently started having a beer on a Thursday afternoon with mates after a game of tennis and cannot believe how much some pubs charge for a schooner . Have paid $6 per beer for tap beer . We try different pubs in the newcastle area and this seems to be a standard price. Also agree that Asian beer doesn't bloat like other beers.

Was drinking $3.50 Reschs schooners on tuesday night

Work charges $4.70 for Coopers/Super, 4.50 for New/Old/Carlton and 4.20 for light, not too bad

Back on the Weihenstephaner's tonight. The Hefeweissbier Dunkel isn't a bad beer. Pleasent drink, really getting into dunkel styles and this I will use as my par for the course, good but not great. The Korbinian Dunkels Starkbier however is a cracker. Awesome dark beer, could drink it all day if it wasn't so potent + expensive.

Stoke Bomber= Smokey ale, not as hoppy as most McCashin beers. Smokey tasting but still quite crisp.
