Bennett Cut Loose By Broncos

Thats exactly what I mean who is out there we are looking for.
I dont think mary has got the goods to go to the next level or either remain a Top 8 coach either..but ATM

Hasler - I wanted him big time a couple of years back but surely his reputation has had a huge battering and no one is even talking about him anymore. They say may never coach in the NRL again after the Dogs debacle.
McGuire - whilst he is a disciplinarian and a change he was a boring style coach (bash and barge) at Souths and they sacked him in the end as was not good enough anymore supposedly. Not the greatest on your resume but yes has a premiership in 2014 to a different style of game as it was only 4-5 years ago with 10 interchanges.
Bennett - I have said enough about his age and the jury is out there if he has still got it. Took a powerhouse to just in the 8 by winning a few late season games with a plethora of junior talent in 1 city. Has 1 of the best support and assistants teams in the NRL. Forever love him for what he did for the Dragons in 2010 but there comes a time to retire and that was now a while ago (different game back then too)

For me that leaves Toovey or Griifin as the best experienced coaches out there. Toovey is not a media darl so gets no talk except going back to Manly where he was sacked for someone worse who was recemmended by GUS..LOL
Neil Henry might be the worlds greatest assistant in the future only.
If we go another rookie (which I doubt) that leaves JD, or those assistants O'Brien or Rylesy (LOL - possbility for the Dragons boys club) from Melb
Someone in this forum talks about Holbrook...really, (another ex junior coach and boys club member) outcoached by Price the other night.

So who are we so desperate to get and why. I say Toovey to take a crack at but not sold on the others especially McGuire who seems to be lauded by the media as the next big thing for a club (except Souths). Did not look so good in 2015-2017.

Other than the seven tackle rule regarding kicks that have gone over the dead ball line, what are some examples which demonstrate the game is different to the 2010?

Off the top of my head, nothing readily comes to mind.

I suggest watch our GF and then 2018 GF again and you will see the difference,
But just off the top of my head and there is probably more;

Interchange reduction
Blockers and running in front of people chasing kicks off the ball now allowed for god knows why
Refereeing around ruck. bit faster this year
2 man tackle wrestle up top 1 come in late down low nowadays
Shoulder charge gone (except for Billy)
Punch gone
Time wasting - scrums
More shot clocks
And as you said 7 tackle rule

I’d argue that most of those are cosmetic changes which haven’t changed the fabric of the game. I would’ve thought the interchange system is still the same.

Fair comment there, BLM01.

Hasler did do himself damage with what happened at the Dogs but l'm more inclined to lay the blame on their CEO and management not doing their job to balance the books.

Castle made a very quick exit over there.

I'd be happy with Hasler providing Millward was doing the books, for which he is.
I'd also be happy to have Toovey. He has the mongrel, them against us, attitude we need to be successful.

I'm amazed to the extent that Bennett has prostituted himself since leaving us and almost returning, thus going to the broncos. Obviously our management are still having reoccurring nightmares about it, so they've stayed away this time round.

My biggest bugbear with our club is their complete contempt for us fans.
They tell us nothing with the exception of scripted bu!!shit once in a blue moon.
I think they believe that mary really is a good coach and aren't interested in replacing him with anyone.....either that or his mates hold all the power in the club now

WIN Corp is a firm Illawarra advocate . McGregor won’t be moving anywhere.

Maybe Mary is the only coach who will agree to the conditions that our management put into place, such as having little say in recruitment and having no say in deciding who his support coaching staff will be. Dean Young may lose his job if a new coach was brought in.

I won't be at all surprised to see Dean Young given our coaching job after Mary.

As I said watch the 2 grand finals then come back to me. Since when are we talking about fabric change since 2010. We are talking about those cosmetic changes and how coaching styles have had to change to adapt to them and the reasons why maybe some have not and some of those we want as coaches. They are very different now. Even Bellamy has changed since they were kicked out of the comp in 2010.
I certainly dont think Hasler or McGuire had improvised or improved since 2014 when it was a big body bash and bargeathon that they loved then. Bennett to me as lost a little bit of that magic touch and discpline consistent ethic he had at the Dragons.

I'd say it is all about the recommendations the CEO provides to the Board. If the contract is due for extension, this would make the coaching situation an agenda item automatically. If not, unless the CEO brings the coaching situation to the attention of the Board, it would not likely be an agenda item.

So blame the CEO - Doust and after Nov 1, blame the new CEO Johnston.

You dont need it in writing.
We can see it for ourselves
We have the evidence
Since 2011 we have been shite
But the club thinks it’s all ok
Enough said

Unlike you, I don't believe 3/4 of the s**t that is written on this forum. Someone pulls a random statement out of their arse and suddenly it's irrefutable fact.

Possm the CEO implements the boards direction. The CEO has input but at the end of the day the board decide.

I dont like Doust as a CEO but as far as I can gather he didn't want Mary it was the board (incl. Sean O'Connor) who picked him. Any CEO that butts heads with the board too often or vigorously is gone.

I can see your point however, in my experience the CEO brings matters to the attention of the Board. Yes the Board makes the decision but usually takes into consideration the recommendations of the CEO.

Unfortunately factional fighting his rife throughout club management including the Board. It was the Illawarra faction who wanted Mary appointed and extended.

With the Board being made up of WIN appointees and St George Leagues Club appointees, The matter of Mary's extension will be brought to the Board with the CEO's recommendation. The Board will consider what Johnston has to say.

So how has it become, a supposed lopsided board favouring the Illawarra component?
Seriously, the blame must lie with someone or some people.
Surely there is suppose to be balance?
How has it come to this?
On whos' watch?

What I am saying is the board are not limited to the CEO's recommendations, directors can and do bring their own agenda items. In fact directors can and do ask the CEO to leave the meeting when they are discussing sensitive issues. The problems with our club stem from the board, Doust has just politically used the situation (and I'm not trying to let him off the hook). Our governance problems may or may not have been suggested and implemented by Doust but could not have happened without the boards buy in and support. At the end of the day, the power is with the board not the CEO.

I agree with you however, if Johnston indicates he supports a Mary extension, you can be sure it will happen. If he supports the termination of Mary's contract and recommends the hiring of a particular coach, there will be discussion and a decision. If nothing is on the agenda about the head coach, then it is likely nothing will be done until it is on the agenda.
