Bennett Cut Loose By Broncos

As much as I admire and respect Mr Bennett, let's stick with Mary. He's a good, solid coach and this year can stand him in good stead for next year. We have to get our heads in the right space. Yes, Wayne would be nice, but Paul for mine.
No. We may have a future NSW or Australian rep in our backline, in Lomax, but Mary won't drop under performing players such as Nightingale, Aitken or Lafai to give our future rep player a chance. Even if Mary has the cattle, he still fails to pick the right team. I think he is a very unimaginative coach. Our fall from grace in 15, 17 and 18 it too alarming to ignore and the pattern it too alarming to ignore. Mary has had too much time to too little result. He doesn't have a god given right to be our coach and probably never should have been our coach, but he has had more than enough of a chance, which could be referred to a waste of time.

Mary, Young and Hornby had their chance gifted to them.

Forever the optimist I hoped they learned their lesson, they stuck with Dufty at the start of the year, named our youngsters in the 21, and we led the pack at the halfway mark, we were blessed with little injury. Mary said they had a plan for the Origin disruption, we weren’t going to see a repeat of last year, and then we did in spectactular fashion.

No other club would have kept them on after last year (2017). No other club would keep them after another slide in 2018.

They don’t deserve another year.

Whats he done?
Mate ....you need to read up, your knowledge is shite.
He took Newcastle to the PRELIM FINAL.
That is god like.
We haven’t made a prelim since 2010.
He took the knights there....LMAO at you.

OK, let me ask you this. You look at his results while at the Broncos since Newcastle. Tell me whether you would be happy with that or not if it was the Dragons.

Yep, I would be pretty happy making a GF and going down in an EPIC battle
by 1 point.
And then making the Preliminary Final in the other year.

2017 TOP 4, Preliminary Final.
2016, Week 2 semi finals.
2015 TOP 4, lost GF by 1 point

Meanwhile, we lurched from loss after loss after loss. The difference with our results vs Broncos in the above three years are massive. Each year they finished streets ahead of us.

Wish we made a Grand Final AND a Prelim Final.

I am not sure why you don’t check the results out yourself, it’s on google man.

The board think making the top 8 is a great result.
Mediocrity, nothing else.
Plain, pure, simple MEDIOCRITY.

Yeh but is it dropping with the ones that matters most. The ones he is coaching most importantly. Who cares what outsiders think is where I am going. Majority of players polled dont really know him and just a perception from outside looking in. If he is losing the aurora from the dressing room..well OK time to give it away.

I think it does matter - purely because it indicates whether players are willing to change teams to play for him. Sure, he's still up the list, but there is less interest than in past years. There's other alternatives and he may not have the level of pull he once had.

Irrespective, I still don't have a solid answer as to why Broncos are so keen to get rid of him. Ouryears response is pure fan fiction and has no substance. As I said, if I was CEO and I thought he still had a few good years left in him, then I'd be keeping him on. Them wanting rid of him indicates there's something we aren't privy to.

Look, if he ends up at the Dragons he ends up here and I'm sure he'd do well - if nothing more than we have a pretty good team that, as per the Brown years, just needs a little tweaking to take a step forward.

My concern is that by signing him up for another 3 year stint we are looking at the same short term gratification we got last time - a premiership followed by a complete mess. He doesn't have a great history of building teams up for long term success. I would rather look at someone we can put in there to take the team forward and build for long term dominance. Otherwise we are just repeating the cycle.

I have - and knew those results. But what I wanted to know was whether or not you would be happy with making 1 grand final, losing and then not reaching it again.

I would have thought, with all the talk of mediocrity in here, that making it once in 4 years (in the fist year) and then not being able to take that next step would also be accepting mediocrity.

So what you are saying is, so long as we make the finals every year, you'd be happy.

If Bennett was in charge I would definitely be more confident of success than if Mary was in charge.

Yeh I agree with most you say. I dont want Bennett only due to the fact I think he is getting too old for the gig. Happily have him in a Gus type role but i dont think Bennett would put his heart into or want to get into that type of role. I will be forever grateful for what he did for the Dragons in the years 2009-2011 as the best I had witnessed since the 90's. We were a real force to be reckoned with.
I just dont trust secret polls, maybe if every player was asked but even then what is the point. The bottom line for me if the media want to make life hard or show bias for someone or something in rugby league to the point of derailment, then it will usually happen.

Nothing is more accurate than this. I even noticed that wanker Peter Badel still hanging shit on Hunt in the Courier Mail this week. Some journos have absolutely no morals.

Journo's are just frustrated politicians the wanna be's of contraversy and self agenda's.

Anyway, back on topic.

I definitely dont want McGregor as our coach moving forward. He's had his chance.

Love WB and what he did for us, but I just think that boat has sailed for us and we need to be looking for a coach with fresh ideas and methods that will see us move forward. Wayne is a short fix, a hit that will feel good for maybe a year or 2, but after that?

There are several good coaches around that could take us places (not in any order):
McGuire
JD
Holbrook (my preference tbh)
Toovey
Just to name a few.

This is where our new board and CEO should be looking to.

Yep, this is essentially what I'm trying to say. I think their strategy with McGregor is sort of right (in that they are looking for a long term solution - ala Bellemy), they've just picked the wrong coach.

Yeah true that.

Thats why I would be seriouly considering Justin Holbrook. He's got the pedigree to really make an impact at NRL level.
Former NRL player, playing as a gial-kicking halfback. Been assistant coach at the Bulldogs, Parra and a stint with us as well before becoming Trent Robinsons 2IC at the Roosters. Now he is head coach at St Helens with a 76% win record. He's also coached Australia at u21 level.

At least hes done the time and gained experience at several clubs.

It's not just a matter or Bennett v Mary, it's the Craig Young and Bob Millward plus the Illawarra and St George factions that will have their say way before it goes to the Board.

I can imagine the conversations and shouting matches. "I'm on this and have that, what is going to happen to me if Bennett is hired".

"What package am I going to get if I resign because of this or if Bennett sacks me on arrival". ……...

Let's keep a coach sitting on 50% wins.

Thats 12.5 wins from 25 games a year

That's 25 competition points.

About 11th place average.

Wayyyy to go guys

Let's check out Holbrooke stats, not knocking him, but let's see his record first.

No to Toovey, reason is he blames everyone else for a loss,I mean how many times can a ref screw your team Tooves??!!!

Diverts accountability.
Same as Mary.

Holbrook is a good possibility, 76% winning record over a few years with St Helens. Good experience at Roosters, Dragons and other clubs. Maybe the way to go.

Similar history to Siebold.

Bennett could end up at the Tigers, especially if they punt Cleary, the coaching merry go round will get interesting in a couple of weeks, hopefully Mary is on it, but i think he will survive to lead us into darkness...

Not once did I say or imply to keep Mary. But if you are going to quote averages, Mary's is above 11th and 25. Since 2015 (8th - 28, 11th - 24, 9th- 28 7th- 30) So who is you replacement when Bennett retires and he will 1 day and he might do it next year... If he is your only option then there is a problem out there. Wanting change is good and I want it as much as others as I dont feel our squad and coaching staff can take us to that consistent Top 4 team..but you better find someone who can make it. If Bennett does'nt who is your better option thats available.
