saints / sharks 1999
raiders 1995
raiders 1993
souths 1989
saints 1985
manly 1983
wests 1978
souths 1969

I thought the raiders of 95 because from memory the won the minor premiership only losing 2 games than bowed out of the semis below form
Saints / sharks both had hot teams in 99
souths likewise 89
saints were raging hot favourites in 85

95-Manly Minor premiers on top for and against, they were THE team of 1995

I'm Biased so I'd probably say Cronulla in 1999. I really thought that would be our year...

And you couldn't go past Parra in 2001.

Cronulla 99 were exposed as the soft pretenders they always were. :D

I don't know about that... what was the half time score in the Grand final again? :p

At least the Dragons made it

Sorry, was I speaking to you?

Parra 2001 were simply awesome, I remember them smashing Penrith in Round 1 and thinking we're gone for this season and they are gonna win it.

Then again I thought that in 2002 aswell.

But not in 2003 :D

IMO, 2001 Parra side was highly overrated. The current Bulldogs or Roosters outfit would have spanked them.

At least we didnt contest for any judicary charge that was worth 4-5 weeks.

Think about it, Eels broke your all tryscoring record of 140 tries, they also have the record for most points in a season, impossible to break.

Any North Sydney side of the early to mid 90s....

The Parramatta side of 2001 (my contempt for the blue and golds coz of their farkwit CEO has only kicked in over the last year or 2)...

The Bulldogs of 2002 and 2003...

Balmain 1989...

Roosters 2004...  yeah right!

The Balmain 88 team had the current British and NZ captains as well as the aussie vice captain and was stacked with internationals and SOO reps - although the 89 team was better overall

taken over the two years though that 88/89 team should be pretty high up in the list of teams who missed out

If Easts don't win tomorrow, then surely they will go the way of Manly of the mid-1990's & become known as a team of unlimited talent that couldn't convert it into Premierships.

T-Ba: Couldn't agree more, but they got their come-uppance in 1969

If we're gonna go stat crazy - Manly in 95 had a Defensive record that was .32 ppg better than the Raiders, yet all you hear about is the amazing Manly defence.

Interesting. Both teams were light years ahead of anyone that year, but the Dogs were simply awesome against a very poor Raiders side in the prelim final. Then they backed it up with another great game against a Manly side that had some really good form going into the game. To me the Dogs deserve to be the champs cause they ultimately beat the two best sides during the year - fairly comprehensively - when it mattered.

I as a Canberra fan admit to being inferior to Manly that year, one of their losses was a 21-18 loss to the Roosters which was controversial...Manly beat Canberra at Canberra and outclassed everybody except for GF day. Yes the Bulldogs beat the best two sides all year but does that not constitute the fact that the Bulldogs were inferior to both? except obviously when it mattered

And if not for the stacked draw (obviously not Canterbury's fault though) they probably wouldn't have got as high as the lowly 6th that they did get.

When you look at the individual players, I think the St George side should have gone close this year. Rep players left right and centre. Just just couldn't put it together at the right time, and had some bad luck with injuries during the year.
