Every other club does pretty much the same thing in these situations in terms of the media response. Keep it breif and don't say much until all the facts are known and the way forward for all parties has been decided. It's the only professional way to do it.

There are laws that if transgressed, could have opened them up to lawsuits x6.

That is in part why Doyle approached each player with the human resources manager.

It would take a long time to sort through every bodies statements and the ramifications of their contracts etc if the club decided to go the lot of them.

Instead, as others have pointed out, they have gone down the health and welfare route (correct choice imo), and there is a precedent for this with the Kiwis (most of the ground work about what a sports body could do in this situation was done then by Phil Holden, Kiwi medicos, Kearney, their legal advisors, ASADA).

The thinking at that time was that this is more of a health issue than a criminal issue (I have read people say the activity is not illegal, this is only true if the person has a prescription, technically you could charge someone with possession and supply).

Not worth going down that road in these cases, it just buries the problem.

We never win in Perth but other NZ-based sides do. As we know this is the longest road trip for the Warriors. Could they be ramping up the prescription pill abuse during these trips west and has it affected our performances in these games?

If so there appears to be a thorough review in place and hopefully we'll get all the answers.

Melatonin is a much better option for these guys.

Not sure of medical history, but if Dr hasn't looked at that as one of the first options and persisted with it then there should be some major calls made on their prescribing practices.

The Warriors are set to establish new guidelines around the use and dispensing of prescription drugs, as the fallout from the "Gang of Six" saga continues.

While Ben Matulino, Albert Vete, Bodene Thompson, Sam Lisone and Konrad Hurrell have served their punishment - and will be eligible for selection against the Penrith Panthers on Saturday (Manu Vatuvei remains on medical leave) - the club have taken steps to decrease the likelihood of another incident.

Warriors managing director Jim Doyle confirmed today the club have reviewed their medical procedures to prevent stockpiling, while also reaffirming that future breaches will not be tolerated.

"Every player in the organisation is very much aware that we will stay strong in regards to those standards and if they don't achieve them there will be consequences," Doyle told Newstalk ZB.

"Players who have been doing it once, players who have been doing it more often, all realise that it is obviously not something that the club will accept.

"It's not illegal to take prescription drugs but it is illegal to take them if they're not prescribed to you and we've made it very clear as to the ramifications...

"[We are also] making sure we're prescribing the right quantity. It's really important that we make sure there isn't the opportunity for that sort of thing to happen."

Doyle and the coaching staff have had extended meetings with the five players and their representatives over the past week, and the door is open for the quintet.

"We've now spent some time with them and they are all focusing on the future," said Doyle. "So I would imagine they'll be available for selection."

Coach Andrew McFadden faces a dilemma. It would be foolhardy to keep last week's inexperienced lineup for the Panthers, as they will struggle to maintain the same energy, but he will want to reward some of the young players who performed against the Dragons. Doyle also indicated that Tui Lolohea, Thomas Leuluai and Simon Mannering will be available.

Halfback Shaun Johnson admitted it had been a difficult time at the Warriors.

"I was chomping at the bit to get into Kiwis camp," said Johnson after the Anzac test. "It's good to be around different players but I'm looking forward to getting home and continuing what we are trying to do. It's been a tough time for us but hopefully we can put it that bit behind us and attack the rest of the season."

Probably one of our most interesting, and debated, 'Team vs...' threads to come! Can't wait to see some of you guys lock horns...

I actually think the ten list will pretty much sort itself. Simon and Tui back in, Manu still unavailable. Maybe bring Ben and Bodene back on the bench.

Happy to leave Bodene out and play Palavi as lock and move Si-fly-what-a-guy to the other edge myself

Kata pushed with his leg as the player tried to get up, he didn't knee.

And there was no headbutt, both players pushed forward to press their foreheads together.

Kata will be fine.

There was absolutely nothing in the Kata incident. Will be a crime against the game if he serves any suspension

Yeah whats doing with Manu? ESL?

Surley he would not want play against the Warriors.

And Cappy be like Officer Barbrady...nothing to see here move along.

Foran takes a few off and stories everywhere, Manu disappears and all quite on the western front.
