Yep, that's the point. Some people started to incorrectly feel that a "sexual assault" charge automatically meant what most people think of as "rape" (penetrative genital to genital sexual intercourse without consent).

In the law there is no distinction, but in people's minds there are.

But that's the thing with these terms. Rape is not a legal charge in NSW. Sexual Assault is, and it covers rape (however people define it), as well as some acts that people out there (and some posting in this thread) wouldn't necessarily think of as rape - oral sex without consent, digital penetration without consent.
