What happened with the bulldogs players those years ago? Im not having a go or anything I dont remember at all whether they were stood down or not, and Im just wondering becasue laffranchi and crocket weren't stood down, and maybe the dogs is another example. Why do you think nobody called for laffranchis and crockets blood in the last few years? I just want to see all sides of it.

EDIT: just noticed a post from you answering about the dogs players so nevermind that.
google it..its been written about ad naeseum.

Personally I think he is a creep. I dont know if he did it or not but if he did and its proven he should be banned for life.

As a father of two young girls i believe sexual assault on women is inexcusable and should not be tolerated on any level under any circumstances.

I'm bringing my kids up to love rugby league and i do not want them hearing about players doing stuff like this. seriously, what does that say to kids? or women in general for that matter. My wife is a recent convert to the game and this is exactly the sort of thing that will turn her off it.

I vote for a life ban if the allegations are proven.

That was then, this is now - 2009.

Don't look for precedents or escape routes. Let's take a fresh start and fix this aspect that has been dragging our game down.

Should be his club's call. After last year especially the League now needs to look strong in the face of player misbehaviour, not just leave it up to each player individually to decide whether or not to stand themselves down.

Ahhhh I really dont want to start a back and forth again but I cant help it because really what has changed in public morality in the two years since laffranchi and crocket? Why pick this particualr incident and player to start punishing more than others? Can I just clear something up, you clearly want him stood down but do you think the nrl should be stepping in to stand him down or do you think manly should be? It seemed like you thought the nrl should but the second paragraph condradicts that. Like I've said whatever manly decide is fine but it would be massive double standrards if the nrl stepped in imo.

I am deeply dissapointed.

i feel so much for all the young fans that follow the sea eagles and brett stewart and look up to him as a role model.

i feel for all the fans that truly love their team and love the game, who are shattered and lost for words about this whole fiasco.

i feel for the game and the amount of disrepute that it has been through, from such scummy farks like stewart, watmough and the manly seagle club.

I also feel for the girl who got assualted, and her family for having to go through something so traumatic.

im very dissapointed with brett stewart. not for the fact that he let alcohol control him, but for the fact he used that as an excuse for what he did. if you can't control yourself when you a drunk, then dont drink. its his own fault for doing this and he deserves to be stood down and deregistered from the NRL.

He should be put to shame.
he is nothing but a filthy dog.

i can only speculate, but who knows what Manly have hidden from the public in regards to any previous incidents that have involved stewart. for him to do something like this, shows me that this isn't the first time he has done something stupid.

you don't just crash tackle a young female and physically assualt her.
you just dont do that.

i have been drunk plenty times and have had alot of indecent thoughts in my head about women i see, but i have never, in my life, thought about doing anything close to this.
any normal man that is a regular drinker wouldn't think of doing anything like this.

i understand getting drunk and making a fool of yourself and getting kicked out of a club or getting into a scuffle with another man.

but to crash tackle a young woman and assault her.
you would have to have some serious issues.

for people to think that he is an angel, would have to think twice after this incident.
for someone to do something like this, i find it very hard to believe that this is the first time they have done anything wrong.

the fans that insist that he still is a good boy, are just being ignorant.

im very dissapointed with the sea eagles. they are to blame, they had a hand in all of this. they deserve all the bad criticism they get, and more.

If they have any sense in them, they would be pulling the pin on that filthy f**k watmough, before he does something like this, or god forbid, something even worse.

for the fans and the victims in all of this, i trully feel for you guys.

for the club and players involved, you deserve all the shiit that will be thrown at you in the next few weeks.

farkn scummy bastards desevre all you get.

No dramas Tommax.

My take on league and all these player behaviour issues is it went too far last season - the centenary season - and teh League will be cracking down harder than before. therefore "precedents" like Lafranchi and the other guy are now irrelevent in 2009. The game has to start to clean up its public image, and therefore there will be differences dealing with these situations now and the future, compared to what happened in the past.

Re your question, Manly will be the ones standing him down. But look underneath the board meeting and the announcement tomorrow night, and you will see the NRL fingerprints all over it. No way there won't be presure placed on the Manly board/club to fall into a new code-wide way of dealing with this stuff, even though the clubs will be seen to be the ones enforcing the actions on their employees.

I don't think that is double standards - different to the past maybe, but not double standards from now on. And it's for the ultimate good of the game, making it appear strong and no nonsense in getting to the bottom of things (either way), rather than having a player play on week to week and be seen to have their heads in the sand.

Well, I don't know what to think - but the story might prove that you don't know what the players are really like. I'm still waiting to hear about the news, but f*ck me, it's getting me less excited about the season. It'll be good when it starts, but all we'll hear about is Manly's sh*t over and over again.
