Brisbane Broncos under investigation for possible salary cap irregularities

Not good, but not nearly as bad as being made out. 150k a year for three years is hardly worth stripping of points ect. Maybe a fine at worst, some clubs have been fined for similar amounts through out the years. The best thing is the Broncos are the ones who brought it all to light, once they found out they got the NRL to investigate it all. Wouldn't have been to hard to make it go away without the NRL even knowing TBH, any club can make 150k a year disappear to players really.

I think there was a time when the Storm copped a fine because Kearny was being sponsored by the club sponsor, they got hit over 100k a year for it for about 3 years.

They'll get fined, other teams fans will sook about it for years to come and Milford will still be a Bronco in 2015. We'll sign a few other players, sack our inept coach and be strong on the field again and the whinging will get louder...business as usual.
Bronco's brought it to light.

almost 3 years later.....

If it is found that there is any funny business with the cap than Paul White and the club Chairman need to resign, regardless of if they were involved in the breaching of the cap

If the warriors are the precedence then the broncos won't lose points because the amount is much less.

You can't just break the cap and then not have any punishment. And who says that the Warriors punishment was only due to the amount? Brisbane had an advantage, and thus must be punished. 4 points seems fair enough.

Haha

That's probably how long it takes Andrew Gee to read a contract.

Look the Broncos always have been and always will be moral beacons. Shining lights.

There's no reason to doubt them. We should just assume they're doing the honourable thing, as Kiwi suggests.

I didn't say they shouldn't be punished, just they shouldn't lose points, they will likely face a fine. The amount determines the severity or degree of the advantage so of course it is relevant to the punishment, according to your logic a club could be over the cap by $20.00 and still lose competition points because they gained an advantage. Clubs are fined every year for inadvertent salary cap breaches.

I'd say the NRL will hit clubs a lot harder if they are actively doing something to avoid detection (e.g keeping two sets of books). The amount becomes less relevant.

This is on par with saying if you go 0.250% BAC, you should lose your licence but not if you're 0.060%.

The "crime" has been committed, a precedence has been set...so the Broncos will cop the consequences.

They could have tried to hide it, wouldn't have been to hard really, but when they found out they contacted the NRL and requested they investigate it. What more were they meant to do? The person most likely involved has been sacked, Gee's "break" and "resignation" are just to obvious really. They found out, took action, notified the NRL, the Broncos themselves aren't looking a shaddy as everyone is hoping or trying to make out they are.

Well the precedence has been set with the Warriors. Take comp points off them.

They shouldn't lose comp points, at worst if they did they would lose 2 points from next year if you are talking precedence, and 150 a year for 3 years isn't even in the same ball park as 500k a year for two years the Warriors were done for. So at worst a 450k fine and maybe 2 points from next year if you are talking precedence.

I have no doubt there will be a fine, but loss of points is a stretch.

That's just such a horrible example to have tried to use. If you blow .250 you will cop a significantly harsher punishment than someone who blows .06.

You actually made their point for them with your example.

Yes they will cop the consequences, but it won't be as bad as people are praying for. They'll cop a fine for the amount of the breach at worst, and loss of points will be minimal as in 2 if any.

they may find more funny business when they have a good look at the books

Maybe but that would be speculation on our part. The Broncos didn't spend two weeks while Gee was "on a break" twiddling their thumbs, you can bet they went through everything themselves first before calling the NRL in to investigate what they found. So the chances are slim, they are there for sure, but very slim one would think.

on a side note, love the quotes in the sig, must have been hard to narrow it down to 4 quotes
