Brisbane Tigers make their bid to be 18th team

There’s only going to be one more Brisbane team (if that). Tigers can’t use their own name. Ipswich is too far out to be viable. Jets were happy to join forces with the Brisbane Bombers mob. Seems like there’s a mutual benefit to join Jets and Easts.

South Queensland Jets. Play out of Lang Park. Co-owned by Tigers and Jets. Centre of excellence somewhere midway between Ipswich and Logan. Play in dark green, white and orange - mixture of both clubs. The South and Jets aspects signify the corridor they’re aiming for and sounds better than alternatives that become too suburb specific and therefore niche.

If Jets are unwilling then partner with Souths Logan. Become the Brisbane Magpies. Magpies also signify the South side connection without the need to say South.

You think if they are team 18, The compromise is they are the Pasifika team. That allows the name to have meaning.

Cairns is never going to work. Brisbane or Sydney are the only places you could have it in the form mentioned.

That said I can't see them being next in after just adding the Dolphins

Yep, it’s a suburb in Ippy. So technically you could have the Newtown Jets playing some games at the North Ipswich Reserve
There also a Newtown in Toowoomba. Home of the RL club the Newtown Lions. If you Google Newtown, QLD, the Toowoomba suburb is the top result.

Yep found it postcode 4350
That is the Newtown in Toowoomba postcode.
Newtown in Ipswich is 4305.

I agree that Cairns won't work but calling them Pasifika is immediately going to limit the amount of people in Brisbane that's interested in them as a club. It'd end up being Broncos > Dolphins > Cowboys > Titans > Pasifika in the pecking order.

Whereas as a clear West/South marketed club would rival the Dolphins for second.

People said Townsville wouldn't work, they had a population of 113,000 when they came in in '95, almost 3 decades later, theyve become one of the best regional examples of a sporting club powerhouse and even just recently had a stadium built for them,
Right now cairns is at 172,000, and Townsville 4 hours drive south is at 195,000... its not a big stretch.. besides its base of operations, no one is forcing the locals to play for the Pasifika over the cowboys... i mean if the northern pride are happy to link with them then so be it, but the idea is to bring in an ensemble squad from the islands of the Pacific and PNG and train and live in Cairns, but play at their respective islands all at the govt expense

The bolded bit has 'Wests Tigers' written all over it. 'St.George-Illawarra Dragons' to a lesser degree too.
Two NSWRL clubs were supposed to be equal shares in the NRL club, but both pulled and pushed against the other and eventually one side became the dominant partner and much resentment resides from both sides.

Two QRL teams forming a partnership for an NRL club will, if left to be a 50:50 split in ownership, almost certainly head down similar paths.

Pacifika could work as Melbourne 2

Tigers and jets merging is the best scenario

jets merging with the bombers did nothing they were a fraud

easts are rich jets aren’t
Easts can’t use the tigers

even if it’s based at langlands park ??? With a few games in the western coridoor and most games at lang park

Why would you put a team in a town of 172,000 (which technically already has a team in the Cowboys) instead of other locations with populations at least over a million? It makes no sense.

Those mergers were essentially forced in a life or death ticking timebomb scenario. This is a different scenario. You'd merge all the Jets & Easts Tigers assets under the one corporate entity, rather than remaining separate. Like I said, Jets have already shown openness to the idea of joining forces with others.

Cowboys are in townsville... 4 hours drive south
As much as that seems ok... its really not, its like saying Wollongong and Newcastle are supporting the same team... south sydney take more games to cairns than the cowboys do, whats that say about that club?

Its an hours flight to port moresby from cairns, not too far, anywhere where else creates vast distance, dont let the Pasifika angle fool you this is about PNG... theyve only recently roped in the pasifika angle, govt arent stumping up funds for a team in Samoa, Tonga or Fiji... they are grease palming for the Papuans

If they want to be that then they wait, Other areas need a team 1st

Distance is relative. People in Cairns who support the cowboys don't care about the distance.

They won't just support a Pasifika side because its on their doorstep.

The Pasifika concept has been devised by some bureaucrat stuck in a cubicle somewhere whose knowledge of how the world works comes from Google.
