Just so all you cockroaches know, and especially those CC bid supporters who bore us to tears with their "we are ahead in all areas" mentality, the new Brisbane bid was a story on 2 of the FTA National News at 6pm up here tonight (and possibly the 3rd channel, but I'm not sure). Around 6.10pm on the channel I watched.

A team to challenge the Broncos in Brisbane, who was behind it, that they would play at Suncorp, and NRL would be on in Brisbane every week. Few other tidbits. Not in the sports segment, in the main news segment. So a pretty fair portion of the state now know of this venture.

This, coupled with newspaper coverage, and its safe to assume the word is out there and its very serious indeed.

Thankfully the odds on a CC bid being successful just blew like the proverbial gale.

Oink !

It featured in both of Ten's evening news bulletins in Sydney tonight as well.

Very interesting looking in from the outside.

Looks like the Brissie Donkeys and the once mighty financial arm of the Donkeys, the Thoroughbreds are having a big tizzy and I like it.

Wouldn't it be great if someone found one of those special filing cabinets like the storm had.

I just have a hunch that toes are being stepped on deliberately here and some are just waiting to hear some squeals and whose doing the squealing.

Me .... I am quite happy for the stand alone non mergered Cronulla Sharks to prosper and grow.

Goes around comes around, something like that.

Oh and a name ... well i like the Brisbane Buzzards. Buzzards like picking the bones dont they.

Yet you are happy to jump on the Ipswich is a must bandwagon. This 2nd brisbane bid appears to be just as advanced as Ipswich's. hell, Ipswich had not even completed business & viability studies/plans, yet according to you they were a must. here we have a 2nd Brisbane side that automatically have the best rugby league ground in the country, the population of the 3rd largest Australian city. Yet you think they should not be given the same weighting as the "superior" Ipswich bid ?

Maybe you should heed some of your own advice.

Brisbane Brothers (Bretheren) for mine.

I think you have me confused for somebody else, it better not be the poster i think you have got me confused with. Take another look at all my post and my signature.

Name suggestions so far by everyone and myself.

Brisbane Diehards
South Brisbane Chargers
South Brisbane Bears
Brisbane Jets

Any more I prefer to have South in the title for differentiate or else it be like Melbourne Heart/Victory there needs to be a clear divide.

Teams can divide up a city without needing to n/s/e/w in their name. Just look at how Chicago and New York are divided by their various teams in different leagues.

The Broncos have their HQ in Red Hill on the northside of the river, if this new team has their HQ at Mt Gravatt/etc on the southside it'd be pretty easy for people to align themselves with the team based on their side of the city.

Good point, it beats me why didn't they admitted the Broncos & a BRL side like the Diehards to the competition in the first place it would of save this debacle in the first place. There could of being a possibility of an Adelaide/Port Adelaide situation it which the Broncos would occupy greater territory than the Diehards for example.Overall, it's best for both Brisbane teams to have 50/50 split geographically.

i don't think that area would have been able to handle a 3rd team being introduced at the same time (along with the GC and Broncos) in 1988 if thats what you are getting at mate. Unfortunately for the Crushers, they came into existence at probably the worst time possible and were canon fodder for New$ when the comps joined back together. Massive shame, but I think if there's the possibility of another QLD team, this bid once formally announced, will probably be the contender from QLD. CQ for mine doesn't have the population base to be able to support a team, maybe in 8-10 years but not for 2013.

I have said it so many times, I would hate to be picking the next 2 teams because there are some really good areas that are vying for the 2 spots, all have their pros and cons and someone is going to be very disappointed.

Thanks for the input I'm still new to this sport since 09 so I'm still learning about the history of rugby league. In hindsight 4 teams in 95 was a pretty bad idea they should of went 2 at a time throughout the 95-00 period the Crushers would of being delayed by a few years and introduced post-super league hypothetically.

and what if their HQ is down the road from red hill?

Don't know that it will be a negative for Broncos, Dockers joining the AFL made the Eagles stronger in many ways.

That sounds a very reticent Gallop, wonder if the Broncos are already pressuirng him?

yeah but we are not talking about the AFL or are we talking about the Perth Sports market.

AFL is a different culture to the NRL
Perth is a different culture to Brisbane

thats what we have to deal with.

I think he's just being extra careful not to make a slip-up like Annesley did not long ago.

One minute you say it's not the 'new eyes' that bring the ratings & revenue, but rather it's the same viewership getting to watch an extra game (true).

Yet on the other hand a 2nd Brisbane team will have Queenslanders all watching this extra game and rate it's socks off, but a Central Coast team won't have the same effect in the NSW market for NSW fans watching?

I'm not saying people wouldn't watch, I'm saying they won't be more popular than the existing big drawing teams like St George, Parramatta, Canterbury, and so on. There's always a popular Sydney club playing good football to keep people interested. But with only one team in Brisbane currently, when the Broncos are not playing well, the ratings in Queensland drop. A second Brisbane team would help this.

Brisbane Diehards

in Navy and Burnt Orange, white trim

works for me....

Nice colours.

But the Diehards nickname is uniquely Valleys, and would be a mistake to try and usurp this history.

Wow! What mastery of knowledge. The AFL is not the NRL and Perth is not Brisbane. Who'd have thought?

why? Similiar sized cities, Broncos are similiar size to the Eagles back before Dockers joined, seems Brisbane and Perth actually have a great deal in common. This isn't the only example, Heart and Victory in Melbourne, numerous International examples. Or do you think RL is in some way totally unique to every other sport in the world and Brisbane unique to every other city in the world?
