I honestly think Maloney stunts his development a bit. I think cleary would play better if he was the top dog

You might be right but Cleary looks in some ways plodder like. He has a great overall game - defence and kicking and minimal mistakes - but he doesn't have the ability at the moment to come up with big plays.

He is good but as you state Maloney is the main man whenever they play together.

QUOTE="Tiger05, post: 13099671, member: 39056"]I'd prefer Brooks to Cleary at this point. I'm not even sure we should offer Cleary a contract.

I doubt Cleary will.be an option in any case...for us or the Nepean roosters ( after his current contract is up)[/QUOTE]
Agree.NC will b at Penrith long term & wont surprise if his old man joins him sooner(next season) than later !

Jesus 05, if the current NSW origin series winning half back is a plodder who is it that you actually rate?

Tiger Ted..
I somehow doubt it.....Ivan's said enough and in a tone which suggests to me he'd like to see the back of Kingdom Gus and i doubt he'll ever feel completely comfortable here again after all that's transpired....if only for forever being under the media microscope. That Nathan hasnt commited to them yet (as he's entirely free to do no matter what panthers tragics say about agreements about November) AND would have had it pointed out to him what a shot in the arm his re signing would be right now. Ivan hasn't ( as far as we know) sought an extension with us so my guess is they will both end up somewhere else. Add 20% to Brooks development ...he IS still young..only 23...and he'll be someone we really need to lock up IMHO

Have you watched him recently. He is really solid but he isn't a game breaker. At this point in his career he needs the rest of the team to win games for him.

Brooks is more creative than Cleary on their performances this year.

I think he would work really well with Brooks. Brooks with the classy plays and speed and Cleary with the controlled game with minimal mistakes with the bonus of a great all round kicking game.

It all comes down to money to me but it's risky getting Nathan and Ivan at the same club if Nathan doesn't perform up to expectations especially on top dollar. I think losing Brooks to gain Cleary might not be a good deal.

Apparently he is at present around n02 in the Ms and no1 by some distant for the no7. Now this is playing in a team running 9th. From where I sit, I have not seen a better 7 over 20 odd rounds. If he went on the open market now the demand would tell you how good he is going

To me Nathan Cleary is a Cooper Cronk style halfback: a cool head, great under pressure, does all the one-percenters well but perhaps a little robotic.
Brooks is more of a Thurston: a bit more flair and panache and an underrated running game, albeit Thurston has always had a lot of chutzpah about him where Brooks seems to go into his shell at times.
If we do somehow manage to land Cleary Jnr, I can see them working extremely well together.

Lol Brooks is more creative than the origin halfback who is about to play in yet another finals series.

Have you watched them play recently ? I haven't seen Cleary play a good game in a while and I've seen Brooks play some good games.

This is reflected in the Dally M's this season as well.
