You have to pity Dave Smith. Wk1 in the job the ACC affair, Wk3 the darling child of the game gets suspended by his club and pulled from promoting the season opener. Must be wondering what's next!

Gotta say, the way the Bulldogs have handled this was perfect.

They let enough information out in a manner that showed they were on the proactive but also held enough back to give Barba privacy and respect.

Whatever happened it must be pretty serious to suspend your best attacking player.
Anyway the reason will eventually come out as there's always someone who will talk and we'll see whether the Bulldogs have been truthful or not.

If it was a personal matter a suspension isn't required you clown. You simply give them a leave of absence.

Barba must have given Hasler or someone a massive gobful.

That, or he has been eating babies.

Exactly how is a suspension appropriate for personal problems. Then Greenburg said they'd considered termination, its been handled very poorly and led to speculation about 'what really happened'.

If, for example, the personal problems came to light as a result of a drunken or drug fuelled incident then the club could both suspend him and help him at the same time.

Well why not say what happened? If there really was some sort of minor incident all that's going to happen by not saying what it was is people speculating about serious indiscretions. It doesn't make sense and there have been about ten reasons for his suspension that are worse than having a fight with a team mate.

Greenberg is talking about how he is 'ill' and all this 'expertise' has to be applied to him to fix him, and it will be a 'long process', and having to 'accept he needs help'.

The papers are alluding to gambling and alcohol and 'spending' (whatever that is).

Probably they see him as a long term investment and are trying to shock him into getting his life in order so they can get the best out of him over the next few years.

It's totally ridiculous tho - Toddy Carney all over again - save Toddy from himself.

I reckon they'll play him after a few weeks. It's what he needs anyway. How on earth is giving up productive work going to help him?

This is all just bullshit, and he probably managed to offend someone in the club pretty badly for them to start all this horseshit.

Didn't Hindy gamble the equivalent of a house away in his time?

Sweep it under the carpet and get on with it.

I dont really see why the media are treating this as some "disgrace" story for the NRL. (Well I do actually, the media are f**king geniuss)

The poor guy broke up with his misso and is having a rough trot. The club or himself have taken a pretty upfront approach to it which is refreshing, but its one of those things that has no real "ok I'm fixed" solution. Hes only 22 or something, give him some time.
