Thanks Cabra Rocks
Interesting with points if he and Chris Yates both play that soak up about 35 points, lucky they have juniors

Add Dallalana and Small and your up to 60 for 4 players, leaves 40 for the other 13. Maybe the points has been scapped.

Yes Roland you are right, with those two as well, Cabramatta will certaintly have to rely on low point players. Or have they scrapped the points system. Does any one know?

Here's one from left field. What if Cabra was entering the State Cup rather than JBC. Points would not be an issue if that was the case.

Cabra definately not entering state cup but trying to get their juniors to take up the remaining positions.
Mounties however will play Bundy Cup next year and are negotiating with Manly to enter State Cup in 2010.

Row over Jim Beam, Bundaberg Rum sponsorship

JIM Beam has been dumped under orders from league overlord Colin Love to placate World Cup sponsor and rival distillery Bundaberg Rum.
Furious Jim Beam officials last night accused the NSWRL of bowing to pressure from Love and the NRL to strip their major sponsorship of the third-tier state competition and award the naming rights to Bundy for $250,000 less.
Known as the Jim Beam Cup for the past six seasons, the grassroots competition will now be called the Bundy Red Cup until the end of 2011.
Having poured $1.5 million into the former Metropolitan Cup since 2002, Jim Beam was committed to investing another $1 million over the next three seasons. But Bundy's sponsorship of the NRL and World Cup created a conflict between the two spirits, and the NSWRL recently voted to cast Jim Beam out to give its competitor exclusivity across all levels of the game.
Jim Beam this week reacted by sending all clubs a letter (printed at right) of explanation blaming politics for its enforced withdrawal. The bourbon producer is particularly disappointed with Love, who it feels was conflicted in negotiations with Bundy in his dual role as World Cup tournament director and NSWRL chairman.
But Love and the NRL claim that rugby league will earn more from a "whole of game" sponsorship with Bundy. They also accused Jim Beam of trying to hijack undue leverage of its sponsorship by using the "Spirit of Rugby League" slogan.
Jim Beam brand manager Ray Noble said last night the money would now be invested in V8 motor racing. "There's no question - it's very disappointing," Noble said.
"It's a case of petty politics. They forced our hand and we've decided to just let it go. But we'll still stay involved with individual NRL clubs."
Love denied the NSWRL had made a commitment with Jim Beam to extend its contract and said claims that Bundy's NSWRL naming rights deal was inferior were "completely false".
"The money generated across all levels of the game from the Bundaberg Rum sponsorship is significantly more than that generated from Jim Beam," Love said. "And it was never a conflict of interest between the World Cup and the rest of the game.
"Jim Beam were great sponsors of one competition only."
Love also denied Bundy had ordered Jim Beam out, but did reveal the world-renowned bourbon brand was "placed on notice a number of times in relation to some of their marketing activities".
Bundy acquired the slogan, "Spirit of the NRL" when it first signed on in 2004.
NRL marketing and commercial manager Paul Kind made no apologies for advising the NSWRL to accept Bundy's proposal.
"Jim Beam did not have a clear understanding of Bundy's agreement with rugby league," Kind said.
"I've got no doubt that Bundy's investment across the game puts us in a preferred position compared to Jim Beam's isolated involvement in one competition."
There will also be a change of teams in 2009. Erina and Belrose have withdrawn, but the NSWRL is trying to convince North Sydney and Ryde Eastwood to fill the void.

Maybe Cabra Rocks can tell us if all these guys are still with the club but Cabra could field a team something like this:

1 Vaiotu
2 McIlvenny
3 Trotter
4 Burns
5 Vaiotu
6 Dallalana
7 Jones
8 Yates
9 Ben Ellis
10 Small
11 Brown
12 Casey Ellis
13 Heckenberg

14 Tuara
15 Teaupa
16 Roche
17 Poto

Parker could sub for Yates or Small. Weaver or Nathan Russell could sub for Teaupa. Aiga could come back in if things dont work out at Cronulla.

So if the 4 players take up say 60 points that means the remaining 13 players need to be an average of 3 points each, which is virtually impossible. For their sake I hope they aren't looking at the dreaded rotation policy, very disruptive and draining on player morale.
The mounties decision could be a good with mounties now controlling harbord diggers.

Cabra have a lot of juniors and long term players. I think the team I posted would fit under the cap and be competive but as you say it is difficult to keep extra players hanging around if they are waiting for someone to get injured or have a rest.

Some player movements have been posted on aWARL thread. The Reds have lost:

Shayne McMemeny - released mid season
Tyrone Coppedge - joined the USA RU team after playing for the USA in the League World Cup qualifiers last season
Steve Gherardi - a JBC rep. To Shellharbour???
Craig Phillis
Ben Lindegaard

Gains:

Aaron Barnes and Michael Elphick from Darwin
Michael Doeg
Michael Ford
Steve Bullock

The gains are unknowns and the losses are mainly experiened. The Reds could go baclwards in 2009.

Thanks Roland and Cabra Rocks for your updated news. What about the Bulls, have they lost or gained anybody for 2009?

any one know what teams are in for 2009

10 team comp at this stage:

Windsor, Bulls, Mounties, Cabra, Wenty, Southern Sharks, WA Reds, Campbelltown, Chester Hill and Penrith Brothers.

Chester Hill resumed training last week. They have appointed Buck Rogers as their new coach. Rogers coached the lower grades at Penrith and Canberra for many years before taking on the role of head coach at several Metro Cup clubs. Geoff Robinson will stay on as Assistant coach.

Hep Cahill, who was contracted to Newtown but spent most of the season with feeder club Chester Hill, has joined Central Coast Storm.

The team line up 4 cabramatta.they are dreaming if they think its under points..dont know who they've signed but i think scott jones is at shellharbour a mistake by officials if let go that will hurt them definately. rotation that word has no association with rugby league and will eat holes in team morale . cabra have a great junior base but as history shows dont use them and look to buy instead of build. does anyone have any news on penrith team or syd bulls to VB cup

RL Review magazine says that Sydney Bulls has changed its name to Bankstown City Bulls and will have a side in the State Cup under a JV with the Bulldogs. The bulls appear to have lost all of its halves with Steve Jolly and Adam Tippett retiring and Nathan Wynn, top point scorer in the comp, transferring to France. Backrower, Tom Moon has joined Wests. No gains are listed.

Moon is one of several players that appeared in the JBC in 2008 that have been recruited by Wests:

Moon (Bulls), Alf Betham (Wenty), Justin Coveney (Mounties), Rhys Pritchard and Albert Hopoate (Chester Hill), Pele Leuluai and Clark Gondola (Campbelltown). Some of these players may appear for Campbelltown under the Wests feeder arrangement.

Scott Jones, Shellharbour? If that is the case and for their sake hope it isn't that's a huge loss. Wasn't he player of the year for Cabra.
