There is no doubt McInnes has stepped up as a player this season however, as a captain he falls short. His decision making is not good and aside from leading by example in defence, he has no influence on the team - our defence is terrible. McInnes does not have players trailing him when he makes those breaks up the middle, one would think he should have an arrangements in place for a few of his team mates to follow him.

Yes, you can blame the coach but on the field the captain should lead and show some authority. With regards to his relationship with referees, McInnes is a mouse. Graham was always the captain we need to have and maybe McInnes or T Sims the vice captain.

LOL,

Cant be serious surely. You blame Cam for professional footy players and a coach NOT fulfilling basic requirement such as backing up the ball runner, tackling structures, etc. This stuff is drilled into football sides from under 5's and up.

Leading by example is what its all about. He shouldn't have to make 50 plus tackles, play for 80 minutes and make sure that the rest of the team are doing what they have trained to do. They should be inspired by what he does.

Big fan of Graham, but we need a Captain who stays on the field. Graham may see 40 minutes of footy next year and T Sims can be a train wreck as Captain. In fact, Tariqs form this year has been way down.

Captaincy is an honour and should be afforded to players such as Cameron. Not given to some one just because they talk more. Graham can still influence a side and does so. Dont need multiple Captains.

It is 2020 I am talking about. Going forward we agrre to disagree...there is no one else. if Mcinnes is a mouse Frizz is worse. Graham is near retirement if not should be after this year. i thought tariq but after this year....no.
In regards to attack it is the coach..Dragons Footy style. Everyone is one out in that side..no one follows anyone as they are told to be in Position for Play 4, 5 & kick and chase No 6 after 3 backs ruck it out.
McInnes will warm into the task by next year and besides is probably the quickest off the mark in our side with exception for Dufty (who is not there) over 20 metres. No one else can keep up anyway

Johnston is our CEO and he played at the highest level under some great leadership. Both Mary and Millward report to him. Surely he can see the problems but seems to do little about them; they continue to exist.

Each season we should be recruiting players to fulfil the needs of the squad. When recruiting replacement players we should also be looking to bring in talent to satisfy the needs of the team.

McInnes is a tackling machine but 50 tackles a game each game will not be achievable year on year. The solution is to have better defence structures where the load his shared more evenly leaving Cam to concentrate a lot more on his dummy half play in attack. Too often the wrong option is taken and our forwards are just bash and barge rather then be put through a hole with a clever run or well timed pass.

3 things..
1. Who is our CEO?
2. So are we still talking about the same debate as who should be captain in 2020.?
3. The answer to your dilemma is simple...just hire new coaching staff

Found these stats on McInnes, apologies if it has already been posted:

Tackles made - Missed Tackles
Rd 2 47-0 (Rabbitohs)
Rd 4 56-0
Rd 5 49-0
Rd 7 52-1 (Roosters)
Rd 10 57-1
Rd 11 64-0 (Sharks)
Rd 13 46-0
Rd 16 50-1 (Storm)
Rd 20 55-1
Rd 21 50-1
Rd 23 55-1 (Roosters)

Absolute gun playing in a crap team, imagine if he was playing in a decent squad? Wasting his potential at the Dragons.

That's the responsibility of the halves. Their options are poor and they never play with eyes up.
The runners are there but they always choose to go out the back leaving the runners running at holes but without the ball.
Poor coaching not adjusting this problem.

I agree his tackle count is extrodinary and should be widely acknowledged, however, Nathan Brown when he was hooker, led ordinary teams deep into the finals consistently. Yes he missed tackles, but my point is, that he had creativity and a threat from dummy half, despite smaller size and slower speed.

Truth is McInnes lacks creativity hence our bland sets. He should be playing lock at least part of the game, Hunt to hooker and bring on another half such as Field ECT.

If we want to keep McInnes at 9, Nathan Brown must be hired immediately to work with him no delay or look for a new 9.

Fascinating. There are people who think Cameron McInnes is one of our problems.

Takes all kinds I suppose.
Well I would say if you don't think he can be critiqued coz he is great in defence, your making the argument to keep Mary as coach and many of the players as they put in too. First grade is about skills and how those skills or lack of fit into how the team plays

So because Mary is a bad coach all players should be labelled useless..

Got it..

Brown is a dud of a NRL coach...he even admitted so hinself once there has been a bit of a rebuild
He did not build Newcastle on his own back to being a current middle of the road side...they just opened the cheque book and bought some decent players and got rid of deadwood
Happy to have Brownie in charge of recruitment and pathways...maybe assistant at best.
There are better options out there to replace McReached His Peak

I shutter to think how much worse we could have been this year if Cameron McInnes had not been playing an absolute gun player I couldn't believe people actually wanted Robson over him. Plays with his heart on his sleeve can even be forgiven being a south's junior that is how good he is.
