No I don't believe they can.

They've had a nice run but c'mon their opponents haven't exactly been premiership material themselves.

They defeated:
A wounded Eels outfit without their main strike weapon in arguably the worst game of the year.

An ordinary Warriors outfit.

The Raiders, who quite literally handed them the game.

And a Broncos outfit devoid of passion or pride.

I doubt the Sharks will win it, but I am enjoying their revival.

If they can win next they can start thinking finals, a premiership this year wouldn't be entirely unheard of Panthers and Tigers ring a bell?

That being said who will we take the piss out of if the Sharks ruin it for us.

If they can win their next two games before the bye (Roosters, Cowboys with Thurston), then they will be in decent shape to have a crack at creeping in.

Before everyone gets swept away with sharks mania lets look at the facts and suspend the knowledge that they have a geniused squad with Ricky Stuart (the tactical genius) coaching them.

I think this late in the season, we can assume that the top seven are set (Cowboys, Knights and Broncos only need to win 50% of their remaining games to make the eight). This leaves the eighth spot up for grabs, if the teams keep performing generally as they have Manly and Penrith will likely tie for eighth.

The only advantage the Sharks have in catching these teams is that they have Manly twice and if they beat them twice they will likely eliminate Manly for the eighth position and/or make the top eight cut off 28 points (this will allow the sharks one more loss).

The Sharks need 8 wins from the next ten games, break down:

· Bronco’s and Storm away (two losses),
· Roosters, Bye, Eels, Tigers and Rabbits (they can get all these games),
· Manly Twice (must wins)
· Cowboys and Titans away (they need these also, tough)

The Sharks will not make the 8.

It's not impossible. Their team actually looks alright when you throw in Barrett and Gallen, two rep players. It's their young guys who are playing well; e.g. Stapleton, Ferguson, Wright

You do realise that the teams that they will be playing against, also have Rep Players?

Sans Souci Sainter makes a good point ... with 15 rounds gone there are only 11 rounds left ... If 28 is the cutoff then the scum need 16 points from their last 11 games (7 wins, 1 bye and 3 losses)

They have had 4 wins on the trot (Eels, Raiders, Warriors, Broncos) but there is not a lot to get excited about in any of the teams that they beat.

Their run home is ...

Roosters - away
Cowboys - away (with origin players)
BYE
Manly - home
Storm - away
Eels - home
Broncos - away
Tigers - home
Titans - away
Manly - away
Rabbits - home

With 6 games against current top 8 teams (5 of these on the road) the task will be very very hard.

The best thing at the moment is seeing the hope rekindled in the scummers eyes - just prior to having it dashed again.

The sharkies have been great to watch the last few weeks and if they keep it going, they're a good chance of making the 8. That would be a massive achievement after their start to the season.

However, they will not win the Premiership.

LOL Dumbest most pointless thread ever.
Playing well now because there is no pressure on them, no one expecting them to be winning with all thats happened.
Wait and see they will win a few more games then papers will start saying sharks are the real deal, they will shorten to make top 8 top 4 then feel the pressure and just buckle.
Good on them for putting in and performing well, but seriously how can you be comparing them to dragons, dogs and melbourne the sharks are so far behind these teams.
