What's the excuse this time Cockburn?

Let me guess: "It was raining again"?

Or: "Your boys played sh*thouse and the Dogs got lucky!" ??

Ring a bell??

Wait, I know...
A band of Leprechauns spiked your boy's Gatorade supply with their highly potent, extra-drowsy pixie dust!

Ah, Shades of last year! :D :D :D

Cogburn is an imbeciled granted. He supports a cheating club & he calls another club cheats.
Weird.

But he is right.
The Bulldogs won the premiership by cheating.
They rorted the slary cap, paid all their players lump sums in that year so they would not go away & now with virtually the same squad, win the premiership.

I wonder if after they had have been caught earlier for going a lazy Mil or two over the cap, if they would have been able to put Sonny Bill on the books .
Or if he would be at an honest club instead.

I hate the Bulldogs just as much as anybody else, but the Roosters have only been able to talk the talk for the first time in 25 years!.

Roosters

1908 - 1950 - 9 premierships
1950 - 2002 - 3 premierships

lets not get carried away!.

Parra have won more in the past 50 years.

The last person I expected reason from!

I hate parra so much less these days, you can thank the arrogance of the Roosters for that. I was actually going for them in the semi's last year.
oh gee thanks i think :? :?

Except Darren Smith, who was a SOO player and Travis Norton.

Reckon there is some money in those contracts ?

And replaced with what ?

Roy Asotasi and SBW ? These two would of been signed for real cheap.

Granted SBW is going to be the next big contract, the Bulldogs are going to have to ditch some players to keep him next year.

Darren Smiths final year was worth stuff all.
In fact if I recall, his last contract was for 1 year?
Travis Norton was a mid range contract.
The only player you really lost, was Vagana, & the Sharks doubled his paypacket.
Talau was possibly another but he maintains he was getting stuff all.

The dogs broke the cap to keep
Sherwin, Price, Anasta, Elmasri, Patten, Mason, Hughes(s), Smith, Norton, Feeney
to secure harris, thurston, Asotasi(s), Utai, Sonny Bill
& to aquire Omeley & Ryan.

They are cheats & they should have not been fined but made put 50% of their players on the market. They would have been able to bid on them through tender through the NRL to get them back, if they could fit them under the cap.

tell me that doesnt make sense.

"The only player you really lost"

I'm not a Bulldogs fan. But I can recognise bullsh*t when I see it.

Lets look at them in groups.

F/B
Mini would get more than Patten.

Roosters

3/4's
Heggarty, Hodges, Walker, Cross
vs
Harris (still on PL contract), Tonga (wasn't a starter at the Eels), Utai and El Masri

Roosters

1/2's

Fittler (once highest paid guy in League) and Finch
vs
Anasta (big contract yes, wouldn't be in fittlers range) + Sherwin (less, or at most same as Finch)

Roosters

Back Row
Ricketson, Fitzgibbon, Crocker
vs
Grimaldi :D , Mason, Ryan
(Grimaldi brings dogs down big time, but I'd still give it to the dogs, by a tiny margin)

Dogs

Front Row
Morley, Wing, Cayless
vs
Price, Perry, O'Meley

Dogs

The bulldogs bench, though good are all on pennies, maybe not for Hughes. But Flannery would be on a deal too.

The Roosters whole back line would be paid a deal more than the Bulldogs.

Get over it.

Sonny Sill was signed at 17 or 18. He'd be like $35 to $40 thousand tops.

I don't know if that is aimed at me or not but you are barking up the wrong tree there pal.
I dont know who I hate more or which club I believe are the biggest cheats. Roosters or Dogs.
Dogs are convicted of rorting the cap & the Rorters areconvicted of exceeding the cap.
Either way if they hadnt have exceeded the cap, each of those clubs would have had key plyers missing in that GF & probably would not have been in the GF.

I dont give a rats arrsse if the Rorters are 5 mil over the cap. Thats another story. hopefully.

But the Dogs are convicted cheats with players on 3-4 year contracts.
Why then were they only penalised for one year? or not made lose the players?

Between the 2002 and the 2005 seasons the Dogs lose,

Todd Polglase
Gavin Lester
Nigel Vagana
Willie Talau
Brett Howland
Travis Norton
Jonathon Thurston
Paul Rauhihi
Jamie Feeney
Steve Price
Steve Reardon
Denis Scott
Darren Smith
Andrew Emilio
Glen Hall
Glen Hughes
Nathan Sologinkin
Hutch Maiva
Matt Riddle

plus a couple more I can't think of off the top of my head (e.g. Asotasi's brother)

In 2002 the Buldogs were found guilty of a salary cap breach (Undisclosed payments) of $400K over the entire 25 man squad. This breach was not discovered through the salary cap auditing process which gives teams the "all clear" but through a media report. This resulted in a 37 point penalty and elimination from the finals. Fair enough punishment.

On the other hand the Roosters were found guilty of a salary cap breach (Undisclosed payments) of $300K for only one of their 25 players (Wing). This breach was not discovered through the salary cap auditing process which gives teams the "all clear" but through a media report. Penalty a $300K fine. No points. And they got to keep their Clayton's Cup.

The dogs won it fair and square. The fact that a lot of the players took pay cuts to stay at the team shows it must be a good environment for the players there.
