Central Coast Bears NRL Bid.

You can't compare the Central Coast Mariners to the Central Coast Bears NRL bid, this is rugby league heartland. Though unfortunately for the CCBears the Sydney Roosters look like they are taking their partnership with the Wyong Roos and the Central Coast Centurians very seriously.

Good thing too, theyve bitched for years about having no juniors....

Next thing the Roosters should do is play 2-3 lower drawing games at Gosford (Newcastle, GC, NQLD, etc) and try to get others that dont draw well when hosting the Roosters to take home games there too.

WHo knows. Maybe, if they invest in the area long term, they will develop a decent fan base that may even trek down for their SFS gams...

Yesterday the CCCenturians and Roosters Harold Matts and S.G.Ball squads trialled against each other. In February the Roosters are trialling against Manly at Central Coast Stadium with the Wyong Roos playing Manly in the NSW Cup as the curtain raiser.

Exactly and the Bears would have something that the Mariners want too and that being the support of the North Shore as the old North Sydney fans would come back to the club and the game.

Tbh i am not against a dragons style setup for us on the coast long term. If the bears dont get nod then i think it could be a realistic option for us to secure our license long term.

“There’s not just us, there are other bids out there that have been kept on tenterhooks for five years and some direction needs to be shown.”

I honestly have trouble feeling bad for them when they new the likely timeline....

The ARLC was confirmed as the future governing body back in '09 and no decision was going to be made before that was established, meaning lobbying Gallop was achieving shitall and it was hopeful at best to assume the ARLCs first act would be to chuck out a licence to the first group at the door.

It was only ever the bids themselves that set the 2013 entry date, and not to say that Gallop inst a wanker for stringing them alone like a 15yo with a crush on the hot girl, but no promises were made and the bids knew what they we in for...

Not striclty speaking true, he put out enough maybes to keep the bids interested and believing they had a shot, when Grant came in he claimed Gallop had done absolutely nothing to investigate, prepare for or set a strategy for expansion. So Gallop did nothing yet put out statements like:

In 2009
"The next big commercial gain for the game will be around the new TV rights deal for 2013 onwards and while the focus between now and then is on existing clubs, there is a good possibility after 2012 we would be looking at expansion," Gallop said. "We would start to look at that in 2011."

In 2010:

"In about 12 months' time when we've got a clearer picture of our media rights deal going forward, we'll certainly be seriously looking at expansion and the bottom line is Perth's got a lot going for it.
"There's an opportunity for us to increase our national profile, the state economy's robust, the (rectangular) stadium is being redeveloped.
"At the moment you'd have to say the Central Coast and Perth are the lead contenders."

In 2011:

NRL boss David Gallop earmarked 2015 as the most likely year that the premiership would expand beyond its present 16 teams, dashing the hopes of a number of consortiums for entry to the NRL within two years.
“Personally I would have thought we would get to 18 teams by 2015,” Gallop said earlier this week.
“It might come earlier but we should be giving our existing clubs a couple of years with the new television money to get themselves stable before we introduce new teams into the competition.”

When asked about the Bombers on Wednesday, Gallop said: "I admire the enthusiasm of all our bid teams but the fact is every one of them have some pluses and minuses.
"Everyone has some stuff that they need to be working on to be genuine contenders to get into this competition and the Bombers are in that position - they have more work to do to convince us of their place."

"I think 2015 is the earliest time that we would do it," Gallop said.
He expects two new clubs to be added.
"I anticipate it would involve two teams so that we would be able to have a ninth broadcast slot.

In 2012
NRL chief executive Gallop emerged from his meeting with Sage and Elias yesterday to declare the merits of a Perth team were "obvious".
Gallop said Sage, a former high school league player in Sydney, was building a strong case for the west."
Tony and Benny bring a unique combination of rugby league and business experience to the table," Gallop said.
"If the competition was to go beyond the existing teams, we'd need a robust business model and a clear indication the whole game will benefit."

These are just a few Gallop qoutes that leave enough doubt in the mind of the bids to make them believe it was worth the effort and expense as there might be expansion on the horizon. Heck if you want to go even further back he started planting the expansion seeds way back in 2004 for both CC and Perth.

The National Rugby League might consider expanding its competition to Perth and Adelaide in coming years, chief executive David Gallop said yesterday.
While the NRL's current focus is to continue dominating Australia's east coast, Gallop would love the league to become national. "We would love us to have a national coverage - total national coverage," he said at a Committee for Sydney business lunch yesterday.
"But dominating the heartland is more important at the moment. We are a few years away [from considering expansion to Perth and Adelaide]."

Perhaps the CC Bears Bid should take a leaf from the Cronulla Shark's book and look at Summer sports they could bring forth a franchise in, then add the Rugby League team later? Central Coast NBL team for example, cheaper to run than Rugby League, and gives an income stream of actually getting played games.

Since most A-league and NBL teams (like the majority of Australian professional sports teams in general) lose money hand over fist and I doubt that Cricket Australia would be willing to risk expanding the BBL onto the CC or putting another license in Sydney, I think it'd be counter productive.

It'd likely just end up taking up all of their time trying to keep that club afloat and put them into debt which would seriously hinder their chances of gaining an NRL license.

However if the CC Bears do get the go ahead, looking into buying the Mariners might be a good idea.

Things just get worse and worse for the Bears bid. With the positive noise being made in Wellington and the internal preference of a strong bloc of the commish actively supporting Brisbane 2, (and Perth being an obvious and sensible choice) the Bears are about a million to one for admission now. You would feel sorry for them but Flo has put that many noses out of joint in clubland you can only laugh.

I think that's a bit unfair.

Considering the situation the Bears are in (through no fault of their own) I think that the way that Flo has acted during this ill-fated CC bid is quite amiable. I know for dam sure that if I was in his situation I'd be a little bit more forceful to say the least.

That's not what people in the club industry think. He's not well liked.

It depends on which club.

considering you have so many clubs that are selfish entitled bullshit clubs its probably a good thing.

If he is disliked by the more honourable clubs then you would have to ask the question.

IMO looking at the issue in context, I agree with the great dane, he has been very very diplomatic.
