Central Coast Bears NRL Bid.

Doc where do you see the Brisbane bids not ticking boxes? Bombers, for all of the dislike of the name, seem to be ticking everything except fan engagement.

They have all the hallmarks of becoming a souless plastic entity. Australian sport has enough of those. They're in the same basket as GWS.

For people in Brisbane that don't support the Broncos that's how they tend to view the Broncos - this corporation that killed off their heritage. Replicating that model again with the Bombers won't engage those non-Broncos supporters.

What Brisbane needs is a club that is anti-Broncos in its approach. A club that has developed organically out of local heritage and not one that's been concocted in the minds of marketing gurus. By all means they need to have a strong financial model but just as important they need to pay due respect to the original queensland clubs. That's how you get the non-Broncos fans on side.

Furthermore the Bombers are targeting the wrong areas. They're focused on the City, North side and the Sunshine Coast. The real growth and core of the population is in the south and west. They need to play out of Lang Park and they need to draw out non-Broncos supporters from across the entire city but setting up in the South-West fill allow them to rival the Broncos in size.

And this is a comment about Ipswich in part but a 2nd Brisbane club shouldn't be a little brother to the Broncos. We don't want a tiny suburban club. They need to appeal to every non-Broncos supporter across the entire city and surrounds to put them on an even keel with the Broncos.

That's how rugby league will create a real and viable crosstown rivalry.

Like I said don't expand into Brisbane unless it's the right club with the right model.

Have moved the discussion to Bombers thread as don;t want to derail the Bears focus.

Hello forum,

Long time no rant but:

I wish to announce that my wife and i had a child on 26 July 2013.

Our beautiful daughter will be and do many great and wondrous things in her life, but she will be very soon a member of the Central Coast Bears RLFC!

She will have a red and black football future .

regards

Just wait for that dreaded day when she realises that, along with Santa Claus and the tooth fairy, the Bears don't exist...

Seriously though, congrats on the addition to the family.

Thank you, I point out the bears exist, and have done so for 105 years!- just not in the NRL at the moment.

From Facebook:

Calling all BEARS supporters, League fans & people of the North Shore and Central Coast. This is a big week for the Bears as it is for our South Sydney friends. We will soon begin our launch for entry back into the NRL. We will once again need the support of all our supporters and everyone who is a lover of this great game. Get on board and help us turn the greatest injustice ever in this game around.

Perry Lopez
Chairman
Central Coast Bears
North Sydney Bears

Come on NRL just tell the bids which cities are realisitc chances and stop wasting peoples time and money.

i heard the bears are not going to be souths' feeder club next season in the nsw cup

the central coast bears should be the first expansion team into the nrl along with brisbane 2, and then followed by perth, and adelaide

I love my Knights but As a proud Central Coast resident I for one will be hoping for the Bears to get in.

Absolutely no way the NRL is going to admit another NRL team when you have Brisbane, CQ, Wellington and Perth all needing a club. If they do they are drop dead donkeys. Expansion needs to grow the game. An existing sydney club (Manly) needs to colocate and get fair dinkum with NRL financial support to give the CC a presence in the NRL but NSW does not need another mouth to feed, imo.

I feel like Manly and Chooks are holding back sydney a bit crowd wise. They have the potential to be far bigger clubs than they are right now.

A abbott fueled gvmt spending bonanza should sort out brookie, combined with strategic marketing/school visits and junior development across the north shore (up to north sydney and frenches forest) as well as the central coast is what manly need to build up a larger fan base imo

no clue about the chooks, extremely disappointing crowds this year

the central coast should have a team in the nrl, no matter how many teams there are in sydney, and it would be righting a very big wrong that was caused because of "super league". perth should have a team too, so should adelaide, and qld should have a 4th team. we had all this at one stage but the game went backwards, and it still hasnt caught up and it doesnt look like it will any time soon

this is what i think the game should be aiming for:
central coast bears and a 2nd brisbane team into the nrl in 2016
a perth team and an adelaide team into the nrl in 2020

20 teams, top 8 make the finals.

every team plays 19 games during the normal rounds, instead of the current 24 games for each club. you would play every club once.

scrap the city v country game, but every nrl club must play a trial game in the bush every year

"anzac test" scrapped. all international games be played after nrl finals series

the world club championship played 2 weeks after the nrl grandfinal. every second year it should be played at the nrl premiers homeground, or in their city

the 3 state of origin games played on saturday nights, but keep the 3 week break between soo matches. no nrl games on state of origin weekend. that should increase nrl crowds for games around origin time and would mean more nrl games around origin time would have more of the best players playing, and would decrease the chance of the star players getting injured later from over playing. the week leading up to the origin would have all the focus on the origin and have lots of hype like it is leading up to the grandfinal

Please...

Manly is a safe Liberal seat (the bloody PM sits there), the gov arent going to waste millions on voters that are already solid.

Brooky might still get a few patch jobs, but we'll see it torn down before it gets anywhere near a decent quality.
