Central Coast Bears NRL Bid.

Liverpool doesn't have a team?

I thought their area was covered in the NRL.

You know, with it being 20 minutes away from both Campbelltown and Bankstown.

And Parramatta.

And 30 mins from Penrith, and within 40 mins of a few others.

That's it, someone start a Liverpool bid thread. Liverpool Lakers maybe? Sounds like a winning idea. I was born in Liverpool hospital. I can be the captain-coach of the inaugural team.

You can't expect Sydney people to travel 30mins to game! How the game has survived without a team in every suburb I'll never know!

Just posted on another thread that Manly are getting most of their junior talent these days from the Central Coast ... half the Eagles 2013 SG Ball squad are Coastie lads. And all this whilst the Manly local comp is coughing and spluttering toward high irrelavence.

As a result, Manly will do everything in their power to ensure the Central Coast Bears never enter the NRL.

If Flo ends up winning the day he could also be creating the ripple that ultimately king tides the dreaded Silvertails away for good.

What a lovely thought !

Taking the emotive aspect of the small but loyal manly fans hurt out of the equation would the NRL be stronger or weaker if Manly were "encouraged" to move to the Central Coast and become the CC SeaEagles, playing 2 games a year at Brookvale?

The game would be better off with cc bears and manly in the comp.

It's a very good rivalry and would strengthen both teams.

To be fair if you want only one club on the dark side cc bears would be better for the NRL then what the sea eagles are.

I think the people of the Central Coast need be considered too (of which I am one).
Whilst there are a few Manly supporters up here I don't think they would be greeted too warmly if they shifted north ... the Bears on the other hand, having fought so long to make this happen, will in my opinion earn the respect of the local league fan.

At the moment Manly are simply using the area without putting terribly much back in.
Anyone who knows anything about the history of Central Coast rugby league will spot veiled similarities to the way Lakes Utd used the district throughout the 1940-1960 era.

Totally agree. Manly, like any monopoly, are not utilising the untapped resources of the upper north shore or Central Coast efficiently because there is no imperitive, and its not 'their' territory. Should the CC Bears be admitted, youd find manly pulling their finger out and start looking after their own territory better, promoting the Bears-Manly rivalry heavily and pushing harder for memberships. Healthy competition is the only way for League to survive between the bridge and Newcastle. Its the reason people in Sydney watch league - local suburban rivalries. But can the league see past the self-interested moanings of Manly, Roosters and Newcastle and look at the big picture? We'll see. if they don't, and fast, the chance will be gone forever.

Manly will have to move to SFS anyway with the 'big stadiums' only push on ...for historical reasons they couldnt survive on the coast. Logistically also, if they won't travel 30 min to SFS in numbers they wont travel 1.5 hrs to Bluetongue.

Abbott will hardly spend tens of millions in a safe liberal seat on an upgraded brookvale for 1 or 2 games a year when there are 4 marginal seats on the Coast screaming for a team in a stadium already built that requires almost no $$$. Barry O'Farrell and Joe Hockey will remind him daily!

If the people of central coast want to send a clear message, they should sell out the Rd 1 dogs v cowboys match

Maybe. Or perhaps the area has been taken for granted for too long. A more powerful message IMHO would be a crowd of Zero. Juxtaposed by a couple of well attended Mariners games on the weekends either side.

I'm quite frankly sick of NRL clubs using the Central Coast footy fan by staging one off games at Bluetongue in the hope of making some quick cash ... (ie. ROLL UP ROLL UP the circus has come to town) ... and in return they run a few drills at one or two primary schools. And then they're off, back down the F3 with our hard earned.

Nah I say we need to win this franchise spot, not by trying to impress but rather by placing one or two doubts in their minds as to our continued support of the code.

I very much doubt Manly will moving their games away from Brookvale Oval even with the state governments push to bigger stadiums.

I think we'll see a situation occur where Sydney's big teams will play in the big stadiums while teams like Penrith, Cronulla & Manly play at suburban grounds.

Ridiculously shocking attitude.

You're not being 'used', you're being given a huge honour to host an NRL match. It's a massive deal for regional centres and the CC gets more than anyone else.

My point being if you accept this as "a huge honour" and hang on every visit like a puppy with it's tongue hanging out, then this is all you'll ever get.

If you continue to do what you've always done, you'll continue to get what you've always got - old but true.

I think the best impact is to watch soccer registrations rising on the coast as RL registrations go down. If that isnt making the NRL sit up and be concerned they're even more stupid than I thought. Soccer is making headway and with the population forecast to almost double in 20 years to 400000+ with mainly young families, congrats to SA for having foresight.

The Bears of course bring the north shore crowd and major sponsors to the mix, which would quickly dominate the Mariners in terms of local attention. The CC Bears have talked withthe Mariners already re joint promos/memberships etc, which would reduce both clubs marketing bills. Makes sense in a regional/tribal community. Bears in winter, Mariners in summer. Manly never.

The Mariners got 7000 to a Grand Final qualifying game last year.

Don't pretend that soccer is popular on the Central Coast.

The sure fire way to guarantee your area never gets a team.

There is little connection between popularity of jnr regos and popularity of professional teams. In WA soccer registrations for Jnrs are higher than AFL yet Eagles get 45k, Dockers get 40k and Glory get sub 10k. To suggest soccer is taking over anywhere just because it is an easy game for little kids to play is laughable.
