I dont understand the Sydney clubs obsession with their own small (and isolated) piece of turf. EG: Why wouldnt the Sydney Sharks move to Moore Park and try to do what the Roosters have tried but failed to do? How do they come to the point of lacking ambition like that?

The Dogs already cover Belmore to Liverpool

So are the natural fit for Macarthur area

Wests want to be a Ashfield - Leichhardt - Lidcome based team

Makes sense. So you reckon if/when the Liverpool stadium is built (Occupied by Bulldogs & Tigers), Tigers would base there permanently & Bulldogs might take a game or two to Campbelltown?

Cant see the dogs ever taking a game to Campbelltown

Bit like Penrith would never take a game to Windsor

Back to the bears, as much as I dont like the idea maybe perth needs to reopen a conversation with them about a joint bid for the 18th spot? Looks like Vlandys and his puppet are going to be around for a while and clearly can’t see beyond suburbia so maybe the idea of having the bears brand back in the nrl is now Perth’s best hope of getting a club in the next few years?

I have grave fears for the demise of the game here if we don’t see the nrl recommit to the region in some way, I’m already hearing from parents that their kids are giving up the game to go to union or afl due to the lack of nrl presence in the city. Would be such a shame to see all the great growth we’ve had since the game re-emerged in 2005 go to waste.

the Bears have previously been keen on the idea:

Although IMO it's clearly not as good as a Perth NRL club with it's own identity, colours, mascot & history, it may just have to be a case of "needs must".

It's not all bad IF there's a clear understanding that this is most definitely NOT a backdoor way of achieving a NSW-based Bears team.

How would you see it operating? Would the Bears NSW Cup team be a feeder for Perth, or would Norths divest itself of their current Sydney catchment for a full re-establishment in Perth?

Done well, it could solve a problem and right some big wrongs.. we could even see Brisbane 2 in 2023 & Perth Bears in 2024.

I've been saying this for years, same colors, instant heritage club and a large following in sydney where the bulk of away games would be held, i would much rather the western reds, but if they stay as the bears, but adopt the old SL nike jersey or even the inaugural reds jersey they still keep perth relavant in their tradition (95-97) red and black is a great combo that both teams shared, just add white and gold stripes as a trim and numbers, and having norths junior feeder club ready to go, plus adding the youth coming from WAs junior clubs is the way to go.
It would be a great marriage and expand and reclamate at the same time.
Can keep the pirates or reds moniker for the junior grades and still have them play in the comps as norths wouldn't change from their end

Only way I could see it working is if the club has 3 or 4 equal share owners and ns bears is one of them. The other three should be WA owned. This would get rid of that constant nagging fear that at some point the bears would move the license back to nsw, and ensures it’s a WA club first and foremost. I could see a 25% share ownership of Cummins, Puddy, NS Bears and NRLWA. NRLWA may be just for the first decade or so to ensure nrl influence on the clubs success and strong links to WA grassroots from day one. Cummins and Puddy bring the investment and NS Bears bring the grassroots and heritage with the advantage of some members in Sydney. NS LC really doesn’t make much profit so I dont see them being able to have a big financial support of the club.

As said I’d much rather see a 100% owner WA club with its own unique new brand but it seems with vlandys that won’t happen so we either bide our time and really hope they dont go to 18 clubs before Vlandys buggers off or we have to play to his myopic attitude of the game and get in bed with the bears. If they bring in nz2 as 18th club it will kill the game here and that it will be it for nrl ever becoming a national comp.

Great points, and well put.

A 3:1 or even 2:1 shareholding (WA over Norths) is a good way to avoid any move back to NSW for the club.

I think your point about NZ 2 is pretty close to the mark too. We have a wonderfully formed bid from WA, the work has been put in, the grassroots have been cultivated, and they're ACTIVELY ASKING for a seat at the big table.

All the talk about a 2nd NZ team has surprised the league community here. We probably wouldn't say no outright, but it's not something that's being actively pursued right now.. and I think the general reaction is surprise that we're on the radar.

Brand wise you could go with red , black and yellow as the clubs colours. Red and black for bears, black and yellow for WA.

would call it west coast or western bears. The game here is really going gangbusters in regional WA so a name that encompasses the state rather than just the city would be a smart move.
Lobby the state govt for a new COfEfor the club and NRLWA hq as part of getting the 18th license.

ironically the perth reds SL jersey wouldn’t be a bad start point for a west coat bears jersey!

My go at things that won’t happen:

1. Bears become NZ2
2. CC becomes Newcastle Knights catchment.
3. Manly takes North Shore/Northern Suburbs to add to their current area.

Re development systems From a cost point of view it would make sense to have a bears and Pirates sg ball sides and under 20’s, and then a Bears side in nsw cup based in Sydney with the best WA and NS kids feeding into that. Eventually if the club was rich enough and we had enough WA talent I suppose we could have a NS bears and a WC Pirates side in nsw cup.

Wonder why the Bears Initial talks with WA bid backers never went anywhere?
