I challenge anybody to name a successful company so stupid enough that they won't put a franchise or place of business where they have nearly 1000000 potential customers that already love or have an affinity to the product?

North Sydney Oval will be getting one home game per season so your 1million call is a bit far fetched.

Well why doesn't the AFL have a team in Tasmania then?

Potential customers (with no AFL team in the vicinity, unlike the CC bears) just screaming out for a team.

Ballarat is approaching 100k maybe they should get an AFL team too.

Probably because AFL is run by d*ckheads and under no circumstances should be used as an example of good business - despite half the forum worshipping every Dimitriou fart and demanding Gallop do the same.

Anyway, mentioning AFL proves Freddy's point. Stupid. Stupid enough to but the GWS at Homebush, house the players at Homebush, base the operation at Homebush and tell Blacktown they now have a home team

Have a look at a WELL RUN company - not a hot air one.

The NRL. Where is a 2nd Brisbane team?

If Perth and 2nd Brisbane aren't the next 2 teams admitted to the competition, then the NRL really are kidding themselves.

It's a no brainer.

But doesn't everybody who seems discredit the CC bid constantly mention and complain that the CC is close to Sydney? So why can't we factor in the 500000-600000 unrepresented folks on the North Shore. Do we pick and chose when to include complain about the proximity?

Well why doesn't the AFL have a team in Tasmania then?
Hobart only has a population of around 200000, but f**k the AFL!

I'm all for 2nd Brisbane and Perth, 2nd NZ. But we are better off to expand and grow slowly and consolidate our heartlands, no matter where they are located if they can sustain a team. f**k the rush for the dots on a map approach. It will happen but we need to be patient for the the NRL can focus all energy into it, because rushing is a recipe for disaster. If done right and with right people in charge and expanded at the right speed, we could very easily have a healthy 20 team comp.

Tasmania - not Hobart.

Manly Sea Eagles are better off claiming the North Shore than the CC. They are much closer.

Where is the bid at? You need to actually have a bid in order to have a team. On that note there is no bid coming from a 2nd Brisbane team. So why give an area a team when they haven't gone out and done the hardyards like make a statement? Get sponsors and supporters? Get cooporate backers? Only the ccbears and perth reds have done this so far. Hence why they should come in before anyone else. They've been at it since both identites went into life support. They keep crossing off what they need to in the nrls criteria.

Again, where is the 2nd Brisbane teams bid? Where are the sponsors, backers financially and cooporate? Where is there business plan? Strategy? Where are there supporters? Do they even have a website?

A no brainer to u who would jump into a body of water without knowing how deep it actually is. The logical no brainer is Perth and the CC. Places with bids, with support and sponsors, with backers financially and cooporate. Places that have websites, merchandise and community support and youth/junior programs already in place.

Ask the Broncos.

Tasmania - not Hobart.
Sure - expecting many Tasmanians to do a 6 hr trip for a game is good reason not to have a CC side. Anyway, I cannot understand what this AFL worship is - it's a crap sport that wouldn't survive except for 2 phenomena: Big crowds in Melbourne, and massive $ to media for positive - if totally crap - stories.

If that's what you want the NRL to become, enjoy mediorcity.

And lol at those reckoning the NRL should get a side in Brisbane - only to find there is no club or CEO to buy players, organise a ground etc.:lol:

Just what we need. 26 weeks of forfeits would be better than a CC team - bloody hell!!!!!!

11 Gosford 1 North Sydney actually.

And Northern Beaches is geographically closer - North Shore is closer by all transport methods not involving a ferry.

I've read on several occasions that the Bears will be playng 2 home games a year at North Sydney Oval.

Can anyone close to the bid confirm this?

Also the traditional Bears territory directly borders Central Coast and is only separated by the Hawkesbury River so I still reckon they are the closest. You can't travel to Central Coast via Manly by land.

The June edition of their newsletter specifically stated all bar one home game would be played at Bluetongue Stadium. That one match would be heritage round at North Sydney Oval in all likelihood.

If you consider Hornsby/Berowra etc Bears territory I suppose you're right but I think you'll find a lot of current RL supporters would view North Sydney/Chatswood/Cremorne/Mosman/Willoughby etc as Bears territory.

TERRIGAL AND ERINA FAIR GET BEHIND THE CENTRAL COAST BEARS

5th July, 2010 | Posted by Central Coast Bears

The Terrigal community and patrons of bustling Erina Fair have demonstrated strong support for the NRL's next franchise, the Central Coast Bears, as the club took its membership drive to a number of busy locations on Saturday 3 July.

The red & blacks have been working hard to engage the Central Coast community, and the team led by Bears’ CEO Greg Florimo and members of the bid team met with hundreds of league fans at the famous Central Coast shopping hot spots.

Greg Florimo said, "We were overwhelmed with the support of the shoppers we met along the strip at Terrigal Beach and outside Dymocks at Erina Fair.

"It's pleasing that the Central Coast is supporting the Bears as its team and understand that the club will be giving local youngsters the opportunity to stay at home and play professional football in the NRL.

"At Terrigal and Erina Fair we spoke with many hundreds of local Central Coast supporters and activities such as this have helped push our membership numbers to almost 1700."

Hundreds of supporters also grabbed Central Coast Bears' membership forms pledging to pay just $30 for individual membership, which are excellent value and won't terminate until the end of December 2012.

Florimo added, "It was also pleasing to see youngsters from the local rugby league clubs signing up with their parents and grandparents.

"We also sold plenty of merchandise with our brand new training shirts selling fast at just $45, while the Central Coast Bears' foundation jerseys at $120 continue to be highly sought after."

Florimo congratulated Brett Hunter from Raine & Horne Terrigal for permitting the Central Coast Bears to use the pavement outside the leading Central Coast property firm's new state-of-the art premises on Terrigal Esplanade.

"There are a number of people who I would also like to thank. All of the volunteers and Bears fans who helped on the day, Belinda Mills and all the Management at Erina Fair for their support and Vince Coco and his staff from Mortgage House for supporting Saturday's membership and merchandise drive."

Mr Hunter, an avid supporter of the Central Coast Bears, said, "The Central Coast is prime rugby league real estate and it makes absolute sense for the Bears to be included in the NRL pronto.

"The Central Coast Bears have a compelling and sustainable business case and I personally can't wait for the brand awareness, tourism dollars and additional business to start to flood into the Central Coast.

Mr Hunter, who is also a director of the Real Estate Institute of NSW, added "I would like to encourage David Gallop to take a drive up the F3 and meet with local community, business and tourism authorities to understand how the Bears will support and be supported by the Central Coast."

The Central Coast Bears membership drive will next visit Rebel at Westfield Tuggerah on 7 August, while a business networking event is planned for the Platinum Building at Erina on 3 September 2010.
