Manu vatuvei to wear number 666 because he is the beast..
I agree with the sane majority, stupid crap idea.
I'm talking about understanding how the sport is played not why they are wearing a number.
The current system is linked to player position/role so aids in understanding. Individual numbers would take that out of our game altogether.
I think we underestimate the advantage of this.
Incidentally whos gonna wear number 96?
I'm surprised I have to explain this because not only is it pretty simple, most sports around the world adopt it...
There are no 3 digit numbers, have a look around.....do you see any players in the world with 3 digit numbers?
There is a system in place in which positions are grouped, in NFL for example the Quarterbacks and I think Special Teams...can have numbers 1-20 or there abouts (I might be slightly inaccurate

).
And also if a number is taken already, that player must choose another available.
And the number will only go up a certain amount, so the amount of squad the team has would be numbered.
It's not that hard to understand really.
It's a fantastic idea. EVERY sport in the world aside from the two Rugby codes does this.
Yes, players move clubs. It happens. Ideally you'll buy a new jersey every 3-5 years anyway. So you get a different one - or you just keep the one you have...I still wear my Nakamura Celtic shirt even though he left last year.
People against this are probably the same bores who want a day grand final...idiots stuck in the 19th century with no idea about what makes money. How many people would buy Cavaliers jerseys if they couldn't rep LeBron? Lakers with Kobe? Liverpool with Gerrard/Torres? Real with C-Ron? It's just good business.
Agreed.
It's individuality, imagine JT, Scott Prince and Cooper Cronk all having different numbers, it would be fantastic.
It'd be meaningful to the players as well, some of the players in the NFL have had their number since they were kids....it shows how important the game is to them.
I hope they go through with it.
