Chasers handing out fake weapons

I think it was pushing the boundaries a bit and I'm not really surprised he got arrested for it. But the Dogs are really fair game for a bit of a joke imho.

I doubt anything will come of this in court. If it actually gets that far....

I read on another forum that when one Dogs supporter spoke to him he asked him if he wanted a packet of rape, and held up a tablet pack with the word rape on it.

Real funny stuff that isn't it.

No wonder he was arrested for offensive behaviour.

no i don't i find that show to be stupid aswell.

But not offensive?

Fat pizza has its moments but my main point is it is full of stereotypes including middle eastern 'gangstas' which I believe are very popular within the middle eastern community and no offence taken (I know of no complaints). Are you saying middle eastern people can't laugh at themselves sometimes? Sad if true. And if true they would be the only ethnic group who don't.

Maybe noad should be called to give evidence and explain it to the judge.

If that's true, then they've definitely taken the gag too far.

The Chaser may consider this to be satire, but to the unsuspecting people at the game, it's out and out taunting. A lot of people wouldn't have had a clue who he was. They just would have seen it as a slap in the face, which explains why they were offended. They were targeted as being violent thugs simply because of the colours they were wearing.

Would it still be funny if they went out to Lakemba dressed as Hezbollah Gorillas and started handing out fake rocket launchers? Or would the Lebanese people out there have a right to be offended?

I hope the skit makes it onto TV.

Where has our collective sense of humour gone? IF the Bulldogs fans didnt have a sizable element of criminals who are into this stuff, then the joke wouldnt have worked. Good satire.

As for the charge "offensive conduct", well that's offensive in itself. Talk about a subjective charge. He may as well have been charged with a "humourless joke". On both counts, he's not guilty.

Still trying to work out the reasoning behind the charge. When he got charge for 'offensive conduct' was it because he was wearing a Bulldogs jersey?

In any case, it looks like he is carrying one of those plastic knives you can buy at Toys R Us - undoubtedly the store of choice for psychopaths and maniacs prone to the odd bit of 'offensive conduct'.

If I may say, I have a lot of respect for the fine work done by our law enforcers. The streets are definitely safer because of their presence. I mean, where else can we have satirists engaging in theatre and be reasonably sure of no retribution from the public? The police are doing a great job at keeping people in line.

And let's face it, the police have a sense of humour as well. NSW acting deputy police commissioner Dennis Clifford was quoted as saying he is "thoroughly disgusted" by a prank carried out by the Chaser. Perhaps he was engaging in a bit of theatre himself, trying to do one better than the Chaser? "Thoroughly disgusted" is a hard act to follow. With that in mind, here's hoping the acting deputy police commissioner doesn't get a stand up gig in one of the hot spots abroad.

And what, most of them arent violent thugs?

Gee, good point  I've lost count of the number of times that the stadium has erupted into a brawl of 15000 people violently assaulting the 5000 visiting fans.

Actually, the closest I've ever come to seeing anything on that scale happen was at Cronulla Beach last year

Hope you never watch fat pizza.

And I hope you weren't within earshot when a middle aged balding man yelled out "Bomb The Gaza" as the Dogs players went through the tunnel.

It's offensive because those targeted by it were offended by what it was suggesting - that they were violent thugs. As I said in an earlier post, if they dressed as Hezbollah Gorillas and went to Lakemba and started handing out fake rocket launchers, would the local Lebanese community have a right to be offended?

It was an insulting joke targeting innocent people who are sick of getting tarred with the same brush as violent thugs. That's why those people were probably offended.

And by censoring satire... what sort of perspective are we gaining?

If the joke incites violence, then the fans who react in a such a way are the ones who have the problem.

And it was the perfect game to do it. Low chance of any real crowd violence: mainly Saints supporters, and large police presence. He got arrested, which he probably expected (or even hoped), and now we'll read about it in the funnies.

btw, one thing that hasn't been raised is how he got the fake weapons in. Maybe the security check in folk are a tad embarrassed by this?
I guess they'll step up their searches from now on, which is unfortunate. Unlike Moffo and Timmer, I'm not looking forward to the introduction of rubber gloves when I next go to a home game.

oooo willow is being slanderous today!

don't usually mind the chaser, but of late some of their stuff has been getting increasingly over the top and distatseful.
