ohh sometimes big words and extended phrases can hide a simple arguement or misconception.Herre are some of my thoughts:
I hear the term "sexuality " used in conjection with choice.Yet in my understanding sexuality is more a human condition than a choice.I thing the user is confusing SEX with sexuality.SEX is the act and the preparation for it.Sexuality is a far more complex, essential condition which in many ways defines our humanity.Without sexuality the abilityto "live to one hundred would be meaningless.
I hear the term"advanced" in reference to societies as if capitalism and consumerism are definative signs of a better society. They are not
As a child in school I was led to believe that Aboriginal societies where "primitive" and white European socities were"advenced " and in some way superior and something that the former group would aspire to if they were capable. This is a hedonist belief of a society that is merely seeking to justify it's own misery.
But then what would I know

Hj I have noticed a disturbing tendency of yours to quote novels as scientific data.Whilst novelists such as Aldous Huxley can present us with ideas and ethical dilemas to consider they do not provide scientific propositions.Oh and btw Huxley was writing long before IVF was a reality.

Sometimes things that aren't meant to be are on the mark. Jules Verne is often referred to as a good example. And novels aren't scientific certainty, or even close, but often (especially in sci-fi) authors tend to discuss ideas or philosophies and present views on them - in Society of the Mind, Harry talks about population control and, along with my earlier studies on Thomas Malthus, it inspired me to think about the situation. Harry presents a very simple yet effective idea - we should help them if they are willing to take control of themselves. I would also recommend Kim Stanley Robinson's "Mars" trilogy as it discusses and deals with the problem of developing a new and effective government, learning lessons from history, when creating a new society (amongst other things).

As for your first post........sounds nice and lovely and all that, and mostly aligns with my personal opinions on matters, but the facts are the more you think about yourself, the more work you put towards the weaker aspects of humanity or whatever, the more energy you are wasting that could go towards pushing the human race to greater hieghts. If you work to make everyone equal, that does not just constitute bringing the lower up, but also dragging the higher down, and everytime we do this we fail to take another step forward to what we could become if we only focused on progress.

So it all comes down, once again, to that question - How important is our Humanity? What should we give up to keep it, or how much of it should we give up in order to achieve what our potential will allow us to achieve?

So much these days people seem to be saying, "Society is getting in the way of my expression of my individuality" when they should be saying "I had better make sure my expression of individuality does not get in the way of society"

I personally think everyone should fall into line and do what they have to, so as to ensure that everyone can have the most available to us all. But the key there is that everyone should fall into line - thats the problem we have today...........that no one wants to fall into the socially beneficial line, but instead they all want to run their own line. This will get us nowhere.
Im starting to think HJ is actually John Howard, with comments like these.
Zig Heil Mr Howard.

Surely you cant be serious with these comments? The world is already going down the track of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. The IR reforms that will come through in the next couple of months, should make certain this country toes the George Dubya line. Sorry days ahead for the poor old working and middle class of Australia.

lol, should I not tell you that I am a Liberal voter (but then again that has a lot to do with the ineptness of the other parties...........)

And I am serious. Not meaning to be rude, but please don't give me any of that lefty hippie crap. I grew up in poverty - single mother on welfare, living in a crappy little coastal town that depended on the dole, that now has the highest crime rate per capita in Australia. I got no help from the education system down there, and when I moved to Sydney the best we could do was Penruff - and that bad parts of Penruff at that! I busted my damned ass since I was kid because I knew no one would help me and I didn't want to have to rely on anyone else's help anyways.

And I got my education, passed with distinction at the best Uni in Australia, and made something of myself. And I worked the whole way, getting up at 4 in the morning during holidays to travel 2 hours on public transport just to earn $12 an hour, just so I could survive. All this crap about the poor is just that - crap. Get off your damned arse and do some work, and make something of yourself, lazy bastards. Don't expect handouts, don't expect anyone else to do it for ya, go and make something of your own life. I am living proof that even those at the bottom of the barrell can rise to the top. Plus I have a moustache.

The fact is that me and you are sitting here behind computers because it is a dog eat dog world, and we became the top dogs by beating the crap out of anything weak that stood in our way. It's a dog eat dog world, and if you don't eat you deserve to be eaten, because that is the only way that we can elminate excess baggage and push forward. Wanna argue against that? Well I;ve got 3.8 billion years of evolution to back me up.

Once again, I don't mean to be rude, but that lefty, hippy, pinko commie, socialist, seed eating, tree hugging, land rights for gay whales, save the forests bullcrap will do nothing to push us forward and ensure the long term survival and prosperity of our great species. And this long term survival and prosperity should be our number 1 priority now and forever. We've come too far and achieved too much just to let it all slide because some fool wanted a handout.
