Yeah, it really would have been good to thump USA by 150 nil.

It's the end of a tour. Let them enjoy themselves.

You are probably one of those NSW people who say that the demonstration State of Origin in California counts too.

This is possibly the dumbest thing i've read.

Lockyer should be captain.

He has led his country well and has captained two successful tours.

Andrew Johns should not be captain. He is a good leader yes, but past it.

And for that stupid person bagging out that USA Match. Yeah thats smart, so they are laughing on the field, have you ever watched American Football? Do u see the shit and antics that go on there, and your complaining about laughing? Grow up!. If Australia went out and won 100-0 yeah, that would have been great in promoting rugby league in USA isn't it. God. At least a close score will promote it.

I admire Bennett for having the balls to come out and say stuff that he doesn't agree with.

And to the person who said why bring up gould. He is citing an example of a similar situation. To say, oh he didn't say on this issue is a two way street. As I recall I don't hear Bennett saying "Scrap the salary Cap", so your argument goes out the window. He was responding to your allegation of you saying Bennett has a secret agenda and is talking crap, just like Gould does sometimes, whats different? is it because he is Phil Gould and he is Wayne Bennett.

God.

Bennett knows that Johns will prove himself and show everyone he deserves the captaincy in the first weeks of the comp. This is why he wants a decision now, cause he knows that lockyers chances are very high with Johns still on the outer due to not having played in 9 months. When Johns returns in 2005 he will earn the captaincy back and bennett knows it. Bennett is the most biased peice of crap ever.

Bennett just doesn't want all the media speculation. He knows that the media will be after Lockyer and himself until it is resolved.

Put it this way... Johns is a better player when both fit..... no questions asked....

Everybody noticed how Lockyer dominated in the first half of the final.... well Joey does it every game for Newcastle and NSW and for AUS not just when its incrediabley urgent.

In my opinion... if johns is fit he should get it.

Bag him if you must but at least discuss the idea.

Huh?

Hes an immature bloke with a chip on his shoulder and this captaincy issue is just another example of that immaturity, IMO..
Whatever. Want to talk about the topic?

Whats the urgency in naming him now?....theres no games for the Roos for 6 bloody months.....

Bennett said the game, to say nothing of the prestige of the Australian captaincy, would be tarnished unless a decision was made now.

Tarnished....what rubbish!
Nobody in the country was talking about the australian captaincy until bennett raised this......its a juvenile reasoning from bennett.

Is that better?

Or do you wanna discuss Gould?

Its Lockyer first, daylight second......

Joey has got to make the side yet. The guys brilliant but, a long lay off.

Remember the King with the broken wing. He wanted to play but they would not let him.....

So it goes with the roll of the dice.

Arrrhhhhh reminds me of a little Leonard Cohen,

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded,

Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed,

Everybody know that the war is over, (could that be superleague)

Everybody knows that the good guys lost,

Everybody know the fight was fixed,

The poor stay poor, the rich get rich,

Thats how it goes...................

.............................evry body knows.

left right combination from the Quigs.

I'd prefer Johns, just think he is a btter captain. Fittler was a much better leader than any of the blokes in the current team.

Check the thread, you're agreeing with me.

Agree mostly. Not quite juvenile reasoning from Bennett. The controversy arising out of Johns v Tallis last time is a fair point but we're all grown-ups, all they have to say is "That's not up to me. I'd like the job but I'm happy to play regardless."

Yeah, thanks.

What part? His ego? His agendas? His arrogance?

If you believe the above then there is no turning back for you. Bennett is wanting some stability at the top and not some media push BS that will engulf this issue IF Joey can return to Origin form.

FACT: Andrew Johns coming back from a major knee injury at 30 years old is no certainty of returning to Origin level form

FACT: Craig Gower, Brett Kimmorley and Matt Orford are ahead of Johns in the race for the NSW 7 jersey at the moment given Johns has not played much football in 2 seasons

FACT: Darren Lockyer is the current Brisbane, QLD and Australian Captain recognised entering his prime with no serious injury concerns barring a rib injury that will heal this off-season which carried mid way through the season

Here the facts with Lockyer at the helm:

Lockyer has an enviable record as Australian captain.

8 Tests as captain
6 wins
1 Draw
1 Loss

- Won the Ashes 3-0 and was a standout on the 2003 tour from fullback
- Won the Tri-Series, though missing games, M.O.M. in final in which Australia won 44-4.
- Don't quote me, though Lockyer has at least 2 M.O.M.'s from 2004, and I 99% certain he has another 1 or 2 as captain for Australia (2004 ANZAC test? 1 at least from Ashes 2003)

Andrew Johns has captained Australia only twice after inheriting the job from Brad Fittler. On one ocassion vs GB (2002 win) and once against NZ in 2003 winning 48-6.

Lockyer WILL BE the Australian captain barring injury people. There IMO is no point arguing as this is a closed discussion.

Darren Lockyer offers Australia finally some stability back at the top which we have not had since Fittler was captain. Lockyer at 27 also offers another 5 years in the top job, not 2 years possibly (doubtful) 3 from the great Joey.

Even though its OT, I think theres a big problem with the Aussies having a laugh on the field.
Theres a time and a place for everything......if it was towards the end of the game and they were comfortably in front, yeah thats cool, theyve earnt the right to ease up and get lighthearted.
The arrogance they showed BEFORE the contest even began left me feeling anything but patriotic.
As was shown, the disrespect they threated their opponents with very nearly backfired on them.
I know how I felt when I heard the American swimmers and basketballers shooting their mouths off and big noting themselves at the olympics, didnt come across too well.
I wonder how many Americans were insulted by the disrespect the Aussies showed......particiularly during the national anthems.

wayne bennett is right. 95% of the time the australians cant do ANYTHING right.
If they smash the yanks by 60 what then?
They go easy on them (like they did) and they get hammered.
The issue re th anthem i agree was poor by OMeley...no one..NO ONE should talk thru any anthem.

Wayne Bennett is not right.

They couldve gone easy on em without clowning around and showing disrespect.

They went easy, they DIDNT get hammered.
