This “must be unanimous” stuff bemuses me. I have always understood that to mean that you can disagree and vote against a motion within the board room but once something is passed everybody supports it outside the boardroom.
But they are talking as if one vote against will block any decision???

But who are 'they'? As far as I can tell it originated from a Hooper article. I doubt very much that it would require a unanimous decision. I'd be virtually certain that the standard that they wish to apply is that it will be a simple majority decision with no public dissent being tolerated. ie; once the decision has been made no Director can come out and say that they voted against. Obviously, unanimity in the decision itself would be the preference.

There would be a company constitution and, more specifically, a board charter that should / would stipulate this. It would be a very silly charter if it included a rule that meant a single dissenting director could lead to the club not having a head coach.

I strongly suspect the mutterings about unanimity are just garbled.

The average age of GF wining coaches is just under 48. Excluding Wayne Bennett, no coach since 2005 has won their first premiership with a new club being over 50.
Great post, I think this rhetoric about needing an old coach who is highly experienced is not that important to me. The ideal coach is intelligent, has new ideas, good people management, lots of energy, can manage upwards and a strong vison/ambitions for the club who wants to lead for the long term. A lot of these traits sound more like a younger coach to me; experience is one dimension, but this can be gained with time anyway.

Tbh I would probably take Bellamy, but not Bennett these days.

After listening to Haram on the podcast, I think the coaching situation us one that needs to be resolved quickly, be that immediate start or confirmed start for '24.

The 'favourite' seems to change by the day, however, imo it's down to 3.

2 experienced in Hasler and Flanagan and 1 rookie in Hornby. Each has their 'flaws', but in saying that, if feel the Board & CEO need to appoint someone they can control. It's just the Dragons way.

I would like to know Haran's preference of the candidates? Seems like he has some irons in the fire in terms of recruitment but needs the right coach in place to make it happen. Hook would be out of the equation as if the players were waiting to see if Hook was coach, they would have signed asap and possibly got a game or 2 under him before he goes but sounds like they are waiting for him to move on to sign to see who is the next coach. They don't want to waste years in KOE like Bud and co are if the make an error whilst Hooks mates make plenty and still get picked.

Has England coach Shaun Wane been mentioned ?????
I reckon we won't get anyone like this.. because we would need to identify & approach them directly.. and thats just not us.. we are 'letting them come to us', so our pool will be closer to home.

Hopefully Haran isn't casting a vote.. because I reckon his job is one of the ones that is most at risk when the new coach comes in.. for example if Browny came in to take over recruitment and mentoring.. or if Hasler/Flanno has someone in mind already.. that said the dragons way is to find him a job somewhere.. we don't seem to let many go... for example Aitken, Elliot, Millward..

Aitken made a right mess of KOE cup last year, so I dont know what possible benefit he could have for the club.

JD and Hornby combination working well with the Bunnies. They have a good roster at Souths and if JD and Hornby were at the Dragons with our current squad, not much different would happen under them as they have been under Hook.

The quality of the players makes a massive difference for the Head Coach which goes without saying.

To me it is no use getting a top quality coach when the players are not top quality.

Look at the warriors with a new coach, they’re playing like a completely different team and seem to have belief in themselves.

Compare this to a good woman. She will either make you or break you.The right coach the same.Come back Flanno. We need you.

Our recruitment over the last 11-12 years has been nothing short of abysmal.
We have become the 'wanna be' club, rather than the club of choice.

No doubt we have swung the bat at many 'elite' players only for them to use us as a bargaining chip to sign elsewhere.

Who have we recruited that could really be called marquee? Widdop possibly but that is stretching it.

Who is a game breaker, the one you know can turn the game for us? Every other team seems to gave one or even more. I wouldn't classify Hunt in this category either.

Each coach after Bennet, and particularly the last 2 have taken the cheap, safety first, yeah I know this player approach. Unfortunately Hook promised he'd changed and learnt from past mistakes, however, to his detriment, he gas gone down the path of favouring the old guard, the ones that 'its ok I've coached them before, they'll come good' approach. Which has backfired massively.

So, our new coach whoever and whenever that will be, must be able to Firstly attract a marquee player, not just high profile, but a marquee game changer player, and secondly be able to heal the fractures within the playing group. Lastly. Playing players in positions that are most beneficial to winning games.

A rookie may struggle with these 3 points imo.
