Sure, but it’s better than a club like us wests tigers being mounted every season.

If you sign Ryles for 5, that’s a solid thrashing and shows the club is boxing at shadows.
The term of the contract is largely irrelevant. A 24 month lease is relatively meaningless if you can be evicted after 6 months, isn't it? The term just defines the expected future date for ending or renegotiating the contract. The actual details of the contract determine its quality for both parties. Hopefully it is a great, performance based contract that gives both parties stability and growth over the full five years.
Go Saints!

The term of the contract is very relevant.

It commits the parties to obligations during that period under its terms.

Otherwise there’s no point to having a term.

Thus clubs get caught out and have to pay out coaches.

Don't really know what is in an NRL coaches contract. If they're anything like a management contract, they will have KPI's and performance outcomes, but there will be a bunch of reasons why either party can terminate the contract. The contract is more like a framework which defines each parties obligations for the duration of the agreement, but in the management contracts I've seen either side can give notice to terminate for all sorts of reasons without the need to pay out the entire contract. But who knows? NRL coach contracts might be structured differently.

Thanks. That’s what I said. The relevance of the term is that it defines when the contract ends. The details are in the contract itself Including any early termination payout provisions etc. If clubs get caught out paying out coaches contracts then they should be more careful selecting coaches and /or negotiating contracts, shouldn’t they.

I think if Ryles has a team like this around him it could work..

Ryles Coach
Hornby Assistant
Browny Recruitment
Defensive Coach - Matt Cooper (the guy is a machine)
Shane Richardson Head of Football Operations (Brains Trust)
NEW CEO
Failing the above happening sign HASLER!
Matt Cooper has no experience as an assistant coach anywhere? Why would he make a good defensive coach?

Close…but my approach is more aggressive.

No payout if he’s a dud after 3 years. Walk away.

If he’s good, we can try to extend his contract in 2 years. Nothing to stop us.
