I wonder if he would consider bringing Paul Gallen with him as a defence coach ? He would certainly be the man to advise the players about team spirit and a never say die attitude . 🤔
Gallen helping out St George? He hates us with a passion. Mind you, the same can be said about us regarding him.

The last 12 years have been absolute bliss for Gallen. I think he's earned enough from his boxing, plus his media commitments, to stay away from us. Much more likely he'd help out the sharks in some capacity.

Flanno will get you guys back into the finals sooner than later. He will also fix up pathways and leave your club in a better spot than when he joins. The stuff he did at the Sharks with no money or help was incredible.

He will have fall outs along the way and do things his way. He is ruthless and he will get your team playing that way. You really got the best man for the job. The derbys will be a lot more interesting.
Might start looking forward to them, in 2024.

Not my preferred candidate, however time to get behind the new coach and support him in lifting our team back up the ladder. Three year contract is a decent length given the baggage he brings and by half way through year two we should have a good sense of whether he is delivering and then give him an extension.

I hope that the rumours about us appointing Nathan Brown to head up recruitment pathways come true as as I think Brown will help recruit players and his easy going nature will help attract Gen Z young players who might be intimidated by Flannagan's more serious nature.

I suspect I am in the minority around here, but I also hope we can keep Matthew Elliot around as I was impressed by the way he facilitated the fan forum and he provides a solid base of experience.

However, Flannagan needs to bring some of his own people and it's definitely to soon for McGregor to come back despite being an excellent fitness coach we need to make sure that the new coach has the space to get the people he wants who bring a fresh injection of new culture. I also don't think we should bring Hornby or Young back as assistant coaches as that is just unfairly 'death riding' the new coach.

Your first three paragraphs are great, but your fourth?

You say "too soon" to bring McGregor back, implying that he should come back at some stage. My question is why?

He was the the trainer when Brownie was the coach, and we seemed to suffer a serious injury every week. The first thing Bennett did when he got here was sack him, and then he weaseled his way back in when Bennett left. He then proceeded to white-ant all and sundry when he finally became coach, getting rid of Demetriou while Robson couldn't get out of here quickly enough. I haven't even mentioned his abysmal tactics as coach, nor the excuses he would trot out on a weekly basis, nor his coaching record.

In all seriousness, why would you want him back in any capacity?

Wow finally and hopefully the saga is over, mind you I dont think he has signed yet. I'm fairly sure that after what was on offer for Ryles the same questions would have come up with Flannagan. I cant see the board handing over control but I also would like to see who has the other positions. All in all its the best news we could have and hopefully its the first step to some form of success in the future. Lets all get behind him now and see what he has got, I'm looking forward to the PC's and a set of Kahuna's making the really tough calls. Lets go Flanno !!!

Is there a sack Flanno thread yet?
I really don't want to see this but we cannot help it. It has become part of our DNA from the time Price got the job and ending with Hook so unless (subject to official confirmation) Flanagan starts his head coaching stint at the Dragons with good results, that "Sack" thread will be posted I feel sure. As I said, it's in our DNA.

By the way - and it is no confirmation - but someone has posted in Flanagan's Wikipedia that he is the head coach from 2024. We know that these sorts of things can be easily put into Wiki.

I guess I prefer to listen to people directly involved in the game like Laurie Daley, Ricky Stuart and Brad Fittler who all think highly of him as a fitness coach.

Our online DNA consists of vocal fans who are loud and passionate about the club, who desperately want success and who are frustrated since 2010; that is a difficult fan base for any coach to keep happy.

In my lifetime I can only recall three coaches Roy Masters, David Waite and Wayne Bennett who seemed to manage to get the faithful on board.

As opposed to personally witnessing the disaster he has been during his various roles at our club?

One further thing-why did Bennett's get rid of him as soon as he became coach?

Two of which were teachers.
Too late now but we should have hired another teacher as coach - maybe Miss Management from the Old Boys High School!

Just so Danny , however there comes a time in a man’s life when he would like a challenge and what better challenge is there then doing something that is completely outside of your comfort zone .

Perhaps that may appeal to him . He certainly would not be the first ex-player to assist an opposition team after his retirement .

It’s called giving something back to the game and that is the very reason why this may appeal to him . He certainly would not be the first ex-player to assist an opposition team after his retirement .
I get that. I just can't see how Gallen would do anything to help us out even if it was a challenge and even if Flanigan asked him.

Mind you, I never thought BMoz would join the dogs or have a better affinity with the rorters than us when his playing days were over. You might be onto something.
