He is/was a good player but waaaaayyyyy too many injuries. Poor guy, wish him all the best at Manly. If the Eagles can keep him on the field he could be a great benchie for them.

Donald Malone, left, has signed for two years with the Cowboys

August 29th, 2008
GENERATION next of the Cowboys was boosted with one pearler of a signing yesterday after lightning fast Ipswich Jet Donald Malone inked a two-year deal with the club.
The flying outside back is the nephew of legendary Bronco Steve `The Pearl' Renouf and has been terrorising the Queensland Cup competition with the minor premiers this season.
His pace allowed him to set a new club record for the Jets with a five-try haul in their 62-10 demolition of Tweed Heads two-and-a-half weeks ago.
Former Cowboy Ray Mercy holds the record for North Queensland with four tries in a game in 1998.
Football manager Dean Lance said the signing was a coup for the club which fought off the advances of Melbourne to recruit the 22-year-old.
"He's a centre, outside back and very, very quick," he said. "We've signed him and we're very happy to announce that.
"He's lightning (quick), about 97 kilos and about six foot two (188cm), he's a big man."
The club has been on the lookout for a back with express pace since international winger Matt Sing left the club at the end of 2006.
And with former Queensland representative Ty Williams only now showing glimpses of his best form after two years wrecked by injury, Lance said Malone was the perfect fit for the club.
"Ty has shown a bit of form but it's no secret that we went after a guy with speed," he said.
"We've got a very good lot of outside backs at the club but we wanted someone with that express pace that can get us the speed.
"Donald certainly has that for a big man, we have another outside back in the club now certainly with the pace that's required."
Malone will link with fellow recruit Willie Tonga in the backline with Ben Harris expected to have completed his re-invention into a lock forward next season.
It has been an amazing turnaround for the Jet, who was banned from the game for 12 months in 2006 while playing for Brisbane club Easts after returning a positive test for cannabis.
And he will join a long list of young talent recruited by the club for the coming years with Ron Alovili (Palm Beach Curumbin), James Tamou (Roosters NYC), Mitchell Achurch (Wests NYC) and Cowboys under-20s Brandon Boor and Nick Slyney all signing for the coming years.
"We're very pleased with our recruitment to this stage, we've signed a lot of young guys," Lance said.
"They're all just out of the NYC program, a whole new breed of young Cowboys will be coming through which is something we're excited about.
"Every one of them has an attribute that we're looking for, size, speed, power and with (Antonio) Kaufusi and (Manase) Manuokafoa we're putting together a pretty powerful team.
"I think (incoming coach) Neil (Henry) will be certainly happy with what we've done."

http://rugbyleaguelive.com.au/Articles/2850/2008/08/31/Troubled_Taumata_offered_NRL_redemption.aspx

Wayward but precociously talented teenager Arana Taumata has been thrown a career lifeline, and will resume his NRL career next season under Craig Bellamy at the Melbourne Storm.

Taumata had his contract with the Bulldogs terminated a month ago in the wake of assault allegations that allegedly left a man nursing a broken jaw.

The Knights were set to offer the elusive half a contract for next season, but decided against it after the allegations surrounding Taumata's bar fight became public.

According to Fairfax, Taumata has already put pen to paper on deal with the Storm, and has been earmarked as a potential pivot for the reigning premiers, with Greg Inglis to revert to his favoured position in the centres.

"I'm definitely pleased to get my future sorted out," Taumata told Fairfax.

"I had some offers from England and I decided if I was going to stay in the NRL it was going to be with a club that would look after me.

"That's what Craig Bellamy and Stephen Kearney told me they would do.

"The lifestyle down in Melbourne is a lot different and league players don't get as smothered down there.

"Craig Bellamy has some things in place for me to do once I get down there and it's all very exciting.

Kearney is confident the Storm can provide an environment in which Taumata can shed his tag as a trouble magnet.

"He will be joining us next year and we feel, given the negative history he has, that we should give the kid an opportunity," Kearney told Fairfax.

"We have a good environment for him to thrive in down here and it's just a matter of him taking hold of the opportunity. It's in his hands now."

It's believed Taumata's Storm deal is for one year with a two year option.
