You mean the Chairman who wants to 'grow the game' by not expanding to new markets, focusing on suburban stadiums, and is currently heading up Racing NSW is an incompetent snake oil dealer?

AFL were clear. Reducing the season, because they know play will be halted at some point. They are planning for eventualities. The NRL are the equivalent of putting their fingers in their ears and screaming 'If I can't hear you, it's not real'.

I don't understand how it's helpful to come up with a reduced season when you don't know how long it will be reduced by. The AFL has cut a few rounds. The NRL might have to do that too. But we don't know how many at this stage, so it's really a stab in the dark to call it now.

By effectively removing 6 weeks from their schedule it opens up flexibility throughout the year. It probably won't be perfect, but it allows more freedom in terms of timing of games, etc. It also gives fans a bit more of an idea of what is likely moving forward.

It doesn't make that much difference though.

If we sit out the next 6 weeks then we can just resume from the next round. It wouldn't be perfect (this situation is stuffed no matter which way you cut it) but the previous arrangements for grounds etc can stay in place. No disruptions to previous scheduling except for a couple of cancellations. Everyone can just show up to where they were planning to be a couple of months ago.

A couple of teams might have to play each other twice, with some not even playing once, but that's just an act of god as far as I'm concerned. The top 8 should still contain at least the 4 best teams, even if they get a dud draw.

They can’t go later in the year due to cricket. RL can go later that is the main difference

That's a good point. We don't really have too many shared grounds. And the ones that are can be moved.

We can play night games in October/November if we really want to.

Might stuff preparation for the next season with the short off-season though.

Seems it’s just a matter of time till the season gets suspended. I doubt rd 3 will go ahead, players will have seen the SL suspended and start pressuring for same.

Your insistence that authorities all know what an exact timeframe is - mind boggling. It is so incredibly clear that nobody, not even the experts, know how long this might last.

The flu season goes until around Sept. safe to say same here. They can’t keep a holding pattern over everything until then.

Victoria was able to put a 4 week time frame on the emergency. Surely the Feds have the same data

Moving Origin to the end of the season or something could be a start, frees up at least one week.

The really hard thing moving forward could be venue availability with a rescheduled season - Wouldn't surprise me to see Roosters relocate more home games.

You would think ANZ won't get rebuilt now. So frees up a venue for the Grand Final

How can you say it will extended longer if no one knows how long it will last?
Because I just quoted it. It's likely. They're not certain but they believe it's likely.

Do you actually read anything or just focus on your own opinion and agenda?

Maybe not but other sports seems to be using May/June as the date to start back up. They have to use something to get to that decision
FFS. They're postponing til "at least" that time. Not a single one of them is giving any kind of assurance that's when they'll be restarting.

It is unclear. I don't know how much more evident that can be til you accept it. This isn't a finite thing.

Maybe kick off around Easter, reduce the competition to a few rounds.

IPL has an actual start date. There is a plenty that do

Depends how bad you think it will get. No way 1.6m people will get in NSW eventually the modelling will get back to a normal rate and things will proceed as normal.

The government must have some idea what number of cases is an acceptable amount and as such know what is needed to get there. Sharing that will get certainty and stop these idiots that panic buy

Probably best, as much as I’ve been looking forward to it, to cancel the rep season and let nrl and SL run a shortened season from June - November. If in June we are still in lock down then reevaluate. At east everyone inc broadcasters know the plan then.
