So we've given them a cheaper deal. What did we get out of it?
Nine and their newspaper SMH are going to be giving really positive coverage of NRL now and will agree not to do ...blah, blah, blah, blah.
So we've given them a cheaper deal. What did we get out of it?
We already had two years of certainty left.
Yeh but the country will have economic uncertainty for a least double that time. Like you, though, I hope we get back control of scheduling for the less dollars.
The real focus of economic recovery will be the relationship with China.
Otherwise, Australia is in a decent position economically. Aussie stock market is up 23% from COVID-19 rock bottom. This point is about 24% lower than the peak before the COVID-19 crash.
For all the talk about COVID-19 scaremongering, everyone seems to love the economic fear mongering.
The NHL announced its Return to Play Plan on Tuesday with 24 teams in competition for the Stanley Cup.
The tournament will begin with a 16-team, eight-series Qualifying Round and a Seeding Round Robin among the top four teams in each conference to determine seeds for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The NHL paused the regular season March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus and its remaining 189 games will not be completed. The 12 qualifying teams from the Eastern and Western conferences were determined by points percentage as of that date. Seven teams did not qualify.
The more you whinge about him the more I’m convinced he is the right man for the job“The words of the broadcasters kept ringing in my ears. If you don’t listen to the people who provide the revenue, you’re an idiot”
First it was to save money
Then it was because fans wanted it

Will be more than a little nauseating listening to the pre game Ch 9 promos celebrating the return of the NRL on the ‘Home of Rugby League’ tonight......particularly given the network didn’t want the restart to go ahead......
As a league supporter it’s great to have the code back again.
All those new sponsors you wouldn't think they would need to bust our balls for a cheaper deal lol

The ARLC has agreed to new broadcast deals with Channel Nine through to 2022 and Foxtel through to the 2027 season.
The new deal extends Foxtel's for a further five years, with the previous rights agreement having covered the five-year period of 2018-2022.
“I want to thank Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany and Nine CEO Hugh Marks for reaching an outcome that puts the fans and the game’s future first,” ARLC Chairman Peter V’landys said.
“Our negotiations were tough but always in a spirit of goodwill and shared ambitions for the betterment of rugby league. We could not have reached our May 28 restart ambitions without the teamwork and collaboration of our partners.”
Foxtel will continue to broadcast all eight games a week this season, with Nine televising three matches per round plus exclusive coverage of the grand final on October 25 plus the State of Origin series in November.

The NRL has officially secured a new broadcast deal after partners Nine and Foxtel agreed to a long term partnership.
Both Nine and Foxtel have recommitted to the current rights deal until the end of 2022.
The NRL also secured a five-year partnership with Foxtel who will continue to broadcast rugby league for a further five years once the current deal ends.
ARLC Chairman Peter V'landys confirmed the news on Thursday.
"I want to thank Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany and Nine CEO Hugh Marks for reaching an outcome that puts the fans and the game's future first," V'landys said.
"I am delighted to have worked with our long-standing partners Foxtel and Nine to reshape and resume the 2020 NRL Telstra Premiership. It is significant that on one of the most important days in our game's history, we have finalised the deals to ensure its future.
"Our negotiations were tough but always in a spirit of goodwill and shared ambitions for the betterment of rugby league. We could not have reached our May 28 restart ambitions without the teamwork and collaboration of our partners."
"These deals provide certainty to ensure our 16 clubs remain strong and that we can continue to invest in grassroots rugby league across our communities."
For the resumed 2020 season:
Nine's CEO Hugh Marks said: "As we approach the kick off for the resumption of NRL season 2020, I want to congratulate Peter on his leadership, and also Andrew for stepping into his role in these extremely difficult circumstances. They have both enabled us to confidently move forward and invest in the future of NRL.
- Foxtel will continue to show all eight games every round - including five exclusive telecasts each weekend;
- Nine will continue to televise three weekly NRL matches - Thursday and Friday nights, plus Sunday afternoon;
- Nine will provide exclusive coverage of the October 25 Grand Final;
- Nine will continue its exclusive coverage of the three State of Origin matches, to be held this year over three weeks on November 4, 11 and 18.
"The team at Nine are in this for the long term and we all look forward to working with the NRL and all the stakeholders, as we continue to build on the success of the game for its long term future.
"Our on-air and production teams have combined to bring even more excitement to the game, further enhancing the experience for the fans at home starting tonight. Let's now all enjoy the game."
Looks,like we’ve give nine a $64mill (33%) discount this year. Very generous of Vlandys!
