No way there was 22k there. The place was full apart from one strip of corperate and they were behind glass.

Pre game pretty sure saw a view where the upper deck on camera side had no one...

That part of the ground was packed by half-time. They showed it several times and the commentators said this was the first time the Storm had opened up the top deck of the western stand.

There was way more than the figure finally posted.

Wouldn't be suprised if a few people snuck through the gates.

I don't think many AFL fans from the MCG turned up.

The crowd was a sea of purple and Kiwis.

Definatley can't see where 8,000 empty seats were, the (originally) empty top deck filled up alot from kick off to half time.

AAMI Park's capacity is only 27 or 28k to my understanding?

Anyway, R7 stats:

Sea Eagles 22 def Panthers 16 @ Brookvale Oval, 7:30pm CH9 - 14,623
Saturday 23 April (Easter Saturday)
Sharks 12 lost to Cowboys 30 @ Toyota Stadium, 5:30pm FOX Sports - 7,340
Bulldogs 36 def Rabbitohs 24 @ ANZ Stadium, 7:30pm FOX Sports - 22,352
Sunday 24 April
Raiders 12 lost to Knights 22 @ Canberra Stadium, 2:00pm FOX Sports - 11,879
Eels 22 def Titans 18 @ Parramatta Stadium, 3:00pm CH9 - 10,052
Monday 25 April (ANZAC Day)
Roosters vs. Dragons @ Sydney Football Stadium, 4:00pm FOX Sports - 34,976
Storm vs. Warriors @ AAMI Park, 7:00pm FOX Sports - 22,694

one of the reasons it took so long to get built was the delay by the victory to get it built to 30,000. it has a capacity of 30,500 for football and 29,500 for super rugby according to wikipedia.

The capacity is suppose to be just over 30,000. They got 29,442 to the first game (Australia V New Zealand so there is definitely more seats than 27,000 or so. Some people probably sneaked in considering how much of a rush there was. Just before kick off there seemed to be half the stadium coming in within a few minutes.

In that case I'd say the camera side (i.e. - what you CAN'T see on the telecast) was empty on the top deck.

Season comparison after R.7 for the past three seasons

2011 981,242 (total) 17,522 (average)
2010 993,962 17,749
2009 980,751 17,513

Crowds this season are down 1.3 percent on last year. But are up 0.05 percent on 2009.

They showed that side during the game and it was pretty packed, they also announced in commentary that it was the first time that top deck has been opened this year so it wasn't empty

Watch a replay of the game and you'll notice that top deck packed.

They showed it before kick-off and it was empty.
