Channel 9 news just crossed to Brookie and the hill is already 3/4 full in the section they showed. Still well over an hour till kick off.

16,820 is PISS POOR.

RL should be doing better than that for a game of this magnitude.

It was fine when brookie held 27000 people

But think about this

This is the game of the year

The best most hyped club game out of 137 this year

And The crowd is below the national rugby league average ????

What the f**k is that about ??

These are the games that need to get 35k if we are ever going to average 20k a game

Take out the Bulldogs fans and there was what, maybe 14,000 home fans? For the biggest regular season game of the year for the reigning premiers? Got to love suburban grounds.

Sad thing was it was an outstanding game, a real battle and deserved a much bigger audience.

Gold Coast crowd is very poor considering they're a lot better than last year and are making a push for the finals and played the massive team from up the road also doing well. That game should be a near sell out.

As for the Manly game, it would have got more than double in ANZ.

The ARLC says they're looking at moving big games to big stadiums, a game like that will be the first to go in the future.

And btw, they need to build another grand stand at Brookvale. Sub17k capacity should not be NRL standard.

Strange that Brookie's capacity is so low. Had this been 1999-2000, the NRL would've booted Manly.

Oh wait...

They just need to forget about Brookvale. Either go further up the road, and get money put into Rat Park, and organise a ground share there. Plenty of parking and room to grow the club, or see what funding they can get for Manly Oval, though no real parking, but Public Transport is heaps better, and more things to do for visiting fans. They don't need a Skilled Stadium type setup, I am sure something that fits 25K can be made, hills at both ends to retain that hill area that Manly fans like so much, with 2 nice all seaters either side of the ground.

What are the chances of declining crowds at both NRL (and AFL for what it is worth) games such as GC v Broncos being due to an impending recession in Australia?
