Why is it a priority? So we don't get xaned by AFL fans as they have this over us?

Other than the look of acres of empty seats at Homebush, there is no real need to get a massive increase in average crowds.

The money comes from TV.

Do you know that for most AFL clubs they get more income from memberships (by a long shot) than they do TV grants? Empty stadiums make the game look sub standard not the premium code we know it to be. You might not care if anyone turns up to a game but hopefully the ARLC think differently. Compare Broncos income to WC Eagles. Both simile sized clubs in their respective leagues yet the income difference is over $10million, that is mostly down to membership/fanbase income.

Yep because all the millions in revenue AFL teams get from members and crowds shouldn't be something NRL teams want?

Brisbane is by far the richest NRL team, Collingwood makes twice what Brisbane does in annual turnover. Roughly 70 million compared to 35 million.

To say "meh" to growing crowds and members is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. Crowds and members aren't just numbers. They bring money to clubs they otherwise wouldn't have.

Seriously that was one of the most geniused posts I've ever read.

I think first and foremost the quality of games needs to improve for a substantial increase in crowds to come about. The entertainment factor is why IMO the majority of us were initially hooked to the game, and is the primary factor in creating a new generation of fans.

A few suggestions to improve would be (for a sustained increase in quality)

  • Investing in coaching development at all levels, academies etc
  • a small technical committee headed by a technical director to oversee trends in the comp (akin to the FIFA one)
  • overhaul of the refereeing/rules management
  • a national over aged reserve comp
  • Introducing new and specialised training programs to juniors devised perhaps by a technical committee to promote skillful, free flowing, inter-linking attacking play whilst also keeping a strong emphasis on defence
To me it's the only thing that will drive a big increase, anything else will merely be putting lipstick on a pig.

I didn't say we didn't need to increase crowds dumbarse, I disputed the need to make it a high priority.

As far as dumb statements, you must have absolutely no self-awareness.

You are the grand poobah of tard.

Do you post blind?

Now this is what I am inferring, these are priorities.

The worst thing we do in the game right now is ask coaches on what rule changes are needed.

Coaches do not give a shit how entertaining the game is, they care about not getting fired. If asked, they will recommended a style that will be completely dour as long as they keep their job.

1 team town.
Sunday afternoon.
Not raining.
26k crowd.

But but but we don't like playing on Fridays, if we had a sunday game we would have a bigger crowd !

So we can pull 26K for a pretty much nothing game when it comes to the Ladder, while you and the Bunnies barely scrape together 19K for a season defining clash.

And I'm supposed to feel humiliated about this?

lol good one teddy boy.

can someone banish him to tfc?
No I wasn't clear enough I meant Aussie Rules,European Rugby Union and most of the Soccer leagues around the world don't have problems with crowds.

At least Warriors crowd looks good.

BTW if Queensland crowds are on the decline then where do all the Maroon fans come from ?.

Not sure what game you went to but it wasn't uncomfortable at all unless you went in a tshirt? We were sat in row 14 in the front block and didn't get wet, no wind, not that cold. Apart from having to dry the seat when we got there it wasn't "uncomfortable" at all. I've come to the conclusion RL just isn't as popular in Sydney as we like to think it is.

how do you explain all the people that watch it on tv then...

I'm actually interested to see what the Broncos last few Sunday home games have drawn actually.. because from memory, poor weather or not, i don't think their Sunday crowds are all that impressive

I think some of brisbane's biggest suncorp stadium crowds have come on a sunday. I can remember 50k plus crowds on a sunday against the dragons and dogs.

We must remember that the better drawing games are usually scheduled for friday night. Sunday is usually a lesser standard match.

49k against the Dogs in 04 and 48.5k against the dragons the following year.

I reckon the Broncos will sell-out their home game against the Storm in the run home to the finals if scheduled for Sunday.

Which European Union are you talking about?

Not one single European Union comp gets anywhere near the NRL for crowds.

As for the Soccer, yeah they have some pretty big comps, but I'm sure the NRL when stacked up against the majority of them, they hold their own.

You are talking shit.

Maybe fans are still stuffed, hungover and bored senseless from last years media frennzy Lockyer feast.
Noticed the S15 Reds crowds haven't dipped below 31000 this year.

yes they have you lying union tosser.

Hey PAL I just checked wiki and it says nothing under 31000.
Brisbane doesn't need another NRL team as the Reds have filled that hole.

And it's League1st/Union very much 2nd tosser.
