right outside the ground theres a subway, mcdonalds and you can bring the food in with you

ribs and rumps across the road.

have a feed before going inside

Irrelevant. Dude said he was at the stadium for lower grades, well before first grade, and as such wanted to have something to eat in his seat. Should not be too much to ask for a venue of that calibre. Absolutely unacceptable that story he posted and would not happen at any other ground.

Very hard to mount an argument to keep playing Tigers games at Campbelltown...

So why have people stopped attending NRL games?

Let me tell you of my experience in the two most recent games I have attended. While they may only appear to be minor, if they happen often it can be enough to turn some fans off from attending games.

Two weeks ago I was at ANZ to see Souths play Canberra. I got there about 12.15pm. The Holden Cup game had been going for about 30 mins. I was feeling thirsty/hungry, so I went to buy something. To my surprise I found no food/drink outlet open for business. I was told they would not open till 1.45. Which is an hour after the kick off to the U-20's. I can only imagine what it would have been like for a dad arriving there at the same time I did with a few young kids screaming for something to eat or drink. Towards the end of the game, actually with 20 minutes to go I went looking for a drink. So what do I find, all the drink outlets closed. If you wanted a drink you had to go to the toilets, cup your hands under the tap and get a drink that way.

I can't speak for South Sydney games but there is always at least 1 food/drink outlet open at gates when Dogs games are on. Seems bizarre. You sure there wasn't one open on the other side of the ground?

Final 20 minutes thing has always been the case, nothing new there.

sounds like a minor gripe to me

anytime im hungry i get a bite before i go into the game as the food outlets outside the stadium are much better than those inside

That is crap, I think Suncorp is similar, but since I live within a km of Suncorp I never arrive more than half an hour before kickoff.

I once got so desperate that I ate a hotdog at ANZ and it was still cold in the middle. Fear.

We are lucky up here, at half time my mates and I sometimes will grab a leave pass from the Stadium and then walk up Caxton St to get some decent food.

I usually get to the game about an hour before kick off (after my trek form the end of a train line). On arrival I have a couple of beers, see the last five minutes (sometimes) of the Holden Cup and spend the rest of the time whinging about how much I hate Victoria and Broncos TV.

Either way. Everything is open when I get there.

Piss off...

ANZ is by far the best stadium in Sydney in regards to catering. If you want something a bit high quality than you head over to one of the fast food joints and bring it in or you hang out at the pub beforehand, but you are absolutely wrong when you say "[It] would not happen at any other ground". These stories are what you should expect to experience when you head out to a suburban ground. That Penrith story; im surprised it was up to date with last seasons prices!!! head out to Leichhardt, Brooky, Parra, Campbeltown or any one of the the 10+ crappy little grounds NRL is played at and youll come away with a similar tale...

If you want a good game day experience for the whole family (not just 50yo single guys longing for the days of muddy fields and bloody players), you need to play in places like the SFS and ANZ; high quality amenities that will keep you dry when its wet, in the shade when its hot and comfortable whenever.

And i know the basic response to this, "ANZ has shitty views and poor atmosphere and the SFS has crappy amenities, and they both have bad public transport. Waaaa!!!", but thats because neither of these have been touched since they were first built. If the NRL was to commit fully to these (and similar) stadiums, then all of their energy would be directed at making these few stadiums world class, rather than each team trying to make their own little 1960 ground suck slightly less....

Can't remember the hill ever being that empty.

I like how ast weeks game a Leichhardt PROVES we need more games at suburban grounds (and couldnt possibly have been an anomaly), but 7000 at Brooky, 7000 at Penrith and 6000 at Campbeltown dont prove anything...

Haha! Is Victoria that well fed blonde lady?

I just cringed my way through "broncos insider".
