Exactly. This is what happens when you release the draw a fortnight before Christmas.

And for the people who say Souths/Easts should've been at Allianz, we have been alternating home grounds for the opener since 2005.

Forgetting the draw, couldn't the Broncos (or the NRL) just book Lang Park for Fri 7 March (and thereafter for the next 10 years)??

In other words are we just going to give up trying to hold this fixture in Round 1, because f**k it its too hard?

Is this that flexible pricing thing in action? But surely if that were the case the sales compared to rd26 would have indicated a crowd half the size and therefore an adjustment in prices I.e downward

I can't say I've ever noticed flexible pricing, I have noticed though that ANZ tend to give the worst seats in pre release and early sales and then don't release the good seats until a day before the game. Which is why you will notice that plenty of seats were taken up behind the posts but in the middle it was sporadic

Happened to me last year. I bought my Melbourne final ticket a day before the game, got seats right near the middle. Bought my Manly tickets in the pre release, paid more to sit behind the goalposts lol

There were definitely more roosters fans RD 1 last year than souths fans RD 1 this year which is a disgrace given their alleged fan base.

Only in the case of souths

Velheru offcourse there was more Roosters supporters in RD 1 there last year then Souths supporters. It was YOUR home game so that's to be expected, your season ticket holders get in for free. Home supporters will outnumber away supporters 95% of the time for that reason.

Putting aside ticket prices, game venue or even scheduling 1/2 of the problem to getting a good crowd is how many OPPOSITION supporters turn up.

We got 60,000 last round because a good 15,000 to 20,000 Roosters fans showed up.

Same as was the case in Round 1 last year, Out of the 36,000 a good 16,000 were Souths supporters.

This year the only Aisles Roosters supporters were occupying were 105, 104 some in 103/106 and a good chunk in the General admission area which is probably only about 4000 people.

Bulldogs & Eels for example usually get 35,000+ because the away supporters of either team bring in a good 15,000+ people.

So how many opposition supporters turn up has EVERYTHING to do with getting a good crowd.

In saying that tho it is much easier for Souths supporters to turn up to the SFS then Roosters supporters to ANZ hence why there was 10,000 there last year.

Nothing like an empty stadium to give a vibrant look to the start of the season. f**k ANZ off for Christ's sake NRL!

so you dont like the old suburban grounds
you dont like ANZ

should every game just be held at Allianz.

Homebush is more central for most people in sydney than Allianz so theyll just have to work with it if they want a central stadiums strategy

homebish isnt that bad. i sat in row 50 for the grand final behind the sticks the view was fine

what about WCC? werent there like 20-25k roosters fans at a PRESEASN event with no season ticket holders getting in (unless im mistaken)

where did all those fans go??? direct train from central (20minutes) looks pretty damn sweet to me.

When Melbourne City opened up land near the CBD (docklands) for development, they built a sports stadium and gave it to the AFL.

When Sydney City opens up land near the CBD (Barangaroo) for development, we build a Casino and give it James Packer

A 25,000 seat indoor stadium at barangaroo, with flexibility to suit, NRL, NBL, Concerts etc and replace the entertainment centre, would have been an awesome result for the city of Sydney...

You would sell it out every single friday night, no matter who plays, as it would be an event for sydney...

The only way we could have garnered up enough support for that is if there were a massive event like the FIFA World cup here. Otherwise the stakeholders of the SCG/SFS and Allianz are too vocal. They both know a centrally positioned rectangular stadium would make them both useless

Melbourne got that because they didn't have a good rectangular stadium.

At this point the better bet is just getting a damn train or light rail built out to SFS and letting the white elephant at Homebush die a slow death. How hard is it to extend the tracks a few kilometers? Instead we are getting a foot bridge. Wow thanks.

I wouldn't be confident of Sydney selling out any ground, they are the most apathetic sporting public in the country.

The games heartland and stronghold deserves stadiums that present the game in the best possible way and give fans the modern day live sporting experience they are paying for. All the time we consider anz a suitable stadium for club games nothing will change. Sydney's west needs a stadium strategy that will deliver parra stadium as a high quality 30k stadium and a long term plan to build a suncorp size and quality stadium to replace anz for NRL club games. It is the nrl's job to find a way to make that happen and should have no concerns about keeping anz viable, that is not our problem.

To be honest if every crowd is 15K or so + we're doing alright. In general over the last few years Rugby League has shown it will turn up for the big games, there's been many 30K+ crowds in sydney of recent times.

But we still have the arse drop out of certain attendences as well. If we can lift the baseline attendance (ie games that have been getting 10k or less up closer to 15 K) whilst still maintaining high turnouts to 'event' fixtures the game will be healthier as a whole, and I think we're on the way to that with the increased emphasis in recent seasons on club membership.

even better would be the Entertainment Centre.

25k is way too small though

like it or not homebush is going to be the sydney stadium for big rugby league games.

they can just build for pubs and shops out there its still got loads of undeveloped land

with a roof on it it wont be too bad

a stadium at parra wont help rugby league that much only a few clubs can use

a new 70k seat stadium in sydney is kinda a pipedream.

sure if the ARLC tried to get one developed and promised to move a lot of club games there it might work one day but that would take 20 years

if we want big crowds before then its homebush and Allianz for big games.

other than penrith, cronulla, and manly, all the other sydney clubs should be moving their big games to one of those two stadiums, thats the ARLC stragetgy

the biggest problem now with homebush is ticket pricing. $70 for a Cat 1 ticket for souths was ludicrous, even $40 for dogs games aint cheap for a stadium of 83,500

At Penrith the camera side is all but 100% full. The opposite side looking good too.

Could be 17-18k

I think the Broncos v Dogs at Suncorp holds the biggest attendance compared to that.

Yep a 49k v Doggies.

Reds have got a 48k and a 52,100 (grand final) against the Crusaders.

Reds v tags highest I believe is a 42k, in 2003 or something???
