hard to judge if 14k was the real crowd at brookie

always seems to be way fuller there than the crowds the clubs admits too

Watching the game my wife asked me if the storm were playing in a regional town with no stadium. I had to explain to her it was an actual NRL ground in Sydney.
How quaint was her reply.

how did you explain the dump Hull KR play in?

you know the crap suburban ground which is located a 10 minute walk to a stadium which holds 25k seats and which your club refuses to play at?

If you choose to put a team in a cyclone prone area you can't complain about cyclone warnings.

Just like Canberra and the cold.

Or you know, the NRL could give us a couple of away games to start the season. Just to avoid the wet season and all....... Not a hard concept really.

Sat arvo crowds will be a terrible... Too much stuff on wait until jnr sport starts there's a reason it vanished

Penrith's best timeslot is Sat night yet we rarely get it. Gould loves day footy so asks for that.

Members will go as proven today about 8k ticketed. 11,300 crowd through in Knights fans bugger all casuals came.

Today was hot & humid very similar to Round 1 last year which drew 10,300 so we have improved ever slightly.

Craven park had hills, 10 years ago. Now it's got a shiny new stand. Even my broke arse club can afford a ground upgrade!

You mean the Hull Council and some random EU development body can...for 8 million pounds. Amazing how you can whinge about consolidation yet six miles is deemed sufficient distance in the UK...

8 million pounds would get us a shed to serve beer in.

It's a harder concept than you'd think. I remember reading an article about how the draw is done up. It takes hundreds of hours over a pariod of weeks inputting data with thousands of variables into a computer. Changing one single variable can have a flow on affect all over the place

Just taking a look at some comparisons around R1 fixtures & their crowds so far...

Cowboys v Raiders = this year 12,121.
Previous 3 head to head @ 1300SMILES: 13.2k, 14.3k, 10.7k. So about average for that fixture.

Manly v Storm = this year 14,200.
Previous 3 head to head @ Brookie: 17k, 12k, 20k. Middle of the road, maybe a bit down.

Penrith v Newcastle = this year 11,369
Previous 3 head to head @ Penrith: 10.2k, 12.4k, 10.9k. Again, average, maybe even above, for that fixture.

Dogs v Broncos = this year 18,040
Previous 3 head to head @ ANZ: 11.3k, 19.8k, 17k. Above average for this fixture.

Souths v Roosters = this year 27,202
Previous 2 head to head @ ANZ: 59.7k, 18.2k, 14.6k. Last year's circumstances were pretty special. Other than that, this match doesn't often draw well at ANZ.

While I get this is Round 1 and there should be better crowds, things aren't as bad as some are making out. Just needs to be some tweaking to the fixturing in future, think about kickoff times and who gets who in the opening round a bit more.

Your blatant idiocy never ceases to amaze.

It is currently cyclone season in FNQ. It will be until roughly mid-late April.

It is not inconceivable that the NRL could limit the amount of NQ home games early on to avoid the likelihood of a cyclone having an effect on attendances (and safety, for that matter).

You should know how hard it is to do up a set of fixtures. There are so many interconnected variables. It's not just a matter of Dave Smith clicking his fingers and it magically happening.

Yep this game should have been played down here in Canberra tonight.

Would have avoided the wet season and our players almost dying of heat stroke, and the Cowboys players would have missed almost freezing to death down here in the middle of winter.

The human body doesn't like extreme opposites very much.

It was a tactical error to schedule so many Sydney games and leave most of the rest of us without games. It felt like yes, the season had begun but we didnt feel part of it. Maybe next week.

Agree about the Cowboys - they should get more away games early in the year. Gets everyone away from either the heat or the wet season

And any team who has to play in Townsville would prefer it in the middle of year when it is mild compared to the cold down south.
