Crowd Watch Mk III

Interesting comparison...Crowds at previous Manly vs Broncos play-offs at SFS >> 1990 Wk2 31,424 >> 1993 Wk1 38,432 >> 1994 Wk1 34,891.

All of those were under an era where the NSWRL sold finals series tickets/packages, so there were many fans of other clubs present at games. Obviously that can't work today as not all play-offs are at the one venue, but I get the sense the current marketing of ieach play-off game is aimed at the fans of the two clubs involved, and not the RL community as a whole.

I think it would be embarassing for Manly as a club to be outdrawn by the Storm.
Population of the Northern Beaches: 200k
Population of Melbourne: 4 million

Yep that would be absolutely embarrassing

Melbourne always get alot of New Zealand fans to their games, I reckon 40% of the crowd would be Warrior fans.

Anyway the PAX for the Manly game is now at 22k

I wont explain for the 100th time why this is a totally ridiculous argument. Comparing the total 'interested in rugby league' populations is all that can be relevant. I know the 200,000 people attending the MCG this weekend wont have the cash or the time to spend another $60 for a league ticket.

You are getting free transport to the ground and everything this time - there is no excuse for either yourselves or ourselves to get very low crowds and either/both of us should be embarrassed if we do.

Are those 13 AFL teams still in the finals? No. The AFL game on Saturday is on at 2pm. No excuses.

There are 3 Victoria teams left in the finals this weekend. That will account for about 150k of the fans minimum.

The point you are making is invalid. Storm are competing in a far, far tougher sports market than Manly (and have not had long to break into the market).

Anyway, no excuses from me. If our crowd is poor I'll admit we must do much better. At least we don't need free buses to get people to come to the second biggest game of the season.

you seem to be mising the point that if you are not a RL /Storm fan that you are probably not going to go to a RL game, finals or no finals! If I live in Melbourne I have 13 different clubs in 4 different codes I could decide to follow. Given RL in the city is so badly covered by the media then the Storm are probably not at the top of the list. If I live in Manly, well I guess its the Sea Eagles.

What I don't get is in a city of that many RL fans (arguably around 1million if TV viewing is any indication) why more Sydney neutrals wouldn't turn out to watch a game when it is the last option for watching a live game for months to come (unless you are lucky enough to have a GF ticket).

I'd be there regardless of what teams were playing.

There are 6 or 7 bays assigned to the Broncos, and all are down to single seats apparently. I have no idea how many people go in each bay, but it looks like a fairly good contingent...

Posted this in the other thread too. Any idea how many people it is if those bays are close to sell out?

In short it'd be a joke if both games don't sell out.

Let's hope they both sell out. We've had over 30k a few times at Etihad so no reason why we can't get the 30,500 capacity at AAMI.

Would be good to see both games be sold out on tv for the atmosphere etc.

I blame a lot of this crowd stuff on the useless first round of the playoffs. Teams finishing 7th and 8th shouldn't be involved (due to a pretty ordinary regular season) and only real die hard fans are going to pay finals prices to watch a game like Melb vs Knights when the bookies are saying its going to be an unbackable one-sided beating.

And if you aren't a Manly fan you aren't going either. The whole of Melbourne only has one team to follow, whilst we only have 200k to follow one team. They have a lot higher chance of people rallying behind them.

Sydney neutrals won't pay to see this game because most Sydney neutrals hate Manly.
f**ked if I'd pay money to watch them win a game I want them to lose.
BTW, I have my Grand Final ticket and will be going as a neutral.
I really hope Brisbane and the Warriors win this weekend.
