Crowd Watch Mk III

Yes.

For me the NRL need to look at how the finals are promoted and marketed, and determine if the game day experience itself could be improved.

That crowd is actually decent judging by the stories coming out in the previous few days but I still find it incredible that people were on here saying they wouldn't travel to the game to see a team they are "obsessed with" play in a prelim final because there might not be enough parking spaces available (!). That either says a lot about those fans or a lot about the finals experience the NRL are offering, or both.

It's been debated to death on here but clubs that have been around for the best part of a century in the real heartland of any sport worldwide should be able to (especially with free buses) get more than 25k of their own fans to one of the biggest games in their history. There are loads of other sports where tickets go from being readily available in the regular season to impossible to obtain in the playoffs. Why dont we have that demand?

People need to get the AFL chip off their shoulders as well. If you point out good things AFL clubs are doing to build their fan bases you get called a 'troll' or worse. We need to look at how they've built clubs with 50k members who are desperate to come back every year. Sydney is a bigger city and just as obsessed with sport - it should be perfectly possible.

This isn't intended as a dig at Manly. It was a par crowd, but we need to put actions in place to start getting them better.

I think it says a lot about the atititude of "sports fans" in NSW in general. It is an excuses culture, god knows how it started and why it continues but it is riduculous.

2300 tix left at 12:40pm. May not sell out but should definitely see a record crowd for the venue (previous record is 25,554 for Rebels' first game).

Not sure what you mean by that, pretty sure the opening Aus v NZ Test Match at AAMI Park got almost 30k.

It would be great for the game in Melbourne to get a near sell-out for this game. The storm should really be there trying to sign on members as this is a fanastic oppurtunity.

Games like this are what make people want to come back.

According to Austadiums you're right:

"AAMI Park officially opened its doors on 7th May 2010, hosting the Rugby League ANZAC Test Match between Australia and New Zealand. The game attracted a near sell-out crowd of 29,442."

Ray just swallowed his words

No he f**king didn't. He blamed someone for telling him the capacity was 27000, and then continued to get it wrong by saying capacity must be about "29000".
Someone as "supposedly" as professional as Ray Warren should do a tiny bit of research and get his f**king facts right.

He's a dinosaur, and I can't wait until Nein lose the rights.
Don't even get me started on the seagulls discussions!!!

28580 in a 30050 seat stadium is outstanding, better than the 31894 Manly got at a 45500 seat stadium. However, as someone else mentioned, how many would we have got if it were held at Etihad?

Maybe 31-32k at best. Plenty of seats still available on the day, and 95% of seats have a good view at AAMI, compared to 30-40% at Etihad (for a rectangular sport). The biggest gaps were in the corporate/dining areas though.

Oddly it seems like Melbourne has played it's best home games in front of <10k crowds this year, the blockbusters have been average at best (apart from the Broncos game).

Poor crowd for a Preliminary Final.

No argument the code shouldn't be satisfied with that number of 31,894, but it is a number consistent with many SFS preliminary finals between a Sydney & non-Sydney club, and the highest for a Friday weeknight > in 2006 Bulldogs-Broncos 29,511 & in 2008 Sharks-Storm 27,570.

Parra v Cowboys prelim final got around 43k as well at ANZ Stadium.

Play Manly v Broncos at ANZ Stadium on a Sunday (a fine one :)) and you'd get around the 40k mark.
