Does make you wonder. Does RL have the biggest bandwagon fanbase in sport? You can see clubs like parra, roosters, Penrith etc get 17k and within a couple of years be down to 12-13k.

Similarly clubs like cowboys, warriors, titans also have slowly but surely dropped over the years. It does seem like a RL phenomenon more than you see in other sports.

Regardless of scheduling, a team running so well that boasts such a large supporter base *should* be getting more than 14.5k against one of it's oldest and fiercest rivals.

Fully agree.

The Souths crowd was bloody poor.

Can't wait until Parramatta and Dragons play on a Monday night at ANZ in round 25,they will get more then 14,571.

I will be back here after the completion of round 25 to Lozzz at Souths and Derp at Souths,Cya in round 25 Bunnies where you get pwned by the wooden spooners crowd wise.

Wooden spooners vs Dragons > Competition frontrunners vs Dragons

Long Rant Alert:

Perhaps if the NRL didn't sell out to the nanny state brigade and turn our game into the boring spectacle it is now more people would go and watch.
1.David Smith and CO need to stop this reactionary policy to media out cry ( all from people who have never played the game) and keep the game the way it was 2 seasons ago.
We need to accept the fact that even when played legally, our game is tough and brutal. Some mothers will never like it.

2. All teams from 1-16 play the same. Souths, Roosters Melbourne & Manly are just much better at it than the others. Last year the Bulldogs dared to be different and it was good to watch. Other teams have since found them out. The tigers in 2005 dared to be different and won a competition. But both since have failed to evolve. Personally, as a Manly suporter I cant stand the bulldogs but I cant lie that I watched a number of their games last season simply due to the fact i enjoyed watching them play.

3.Cost Doesn't bother me but I'm a single 26 yr old male. No wife and kids to worry about. Its obviously a big issue for others and I can understand that. There is so many different ways this can be resolved but no body seems willing to have a go.

4. The sport is arguably the most professional it has ever been. Yet we still have Part time referees. Most of them rubbish. (Dont even start me on the touch judges... what do they do again?)
Pay them what they deserve (it is a shit job) and attract good people into the job. I know its hard to attract junior referees (I've had a go, hated it) but being hard doesn't make it impossible. There must be a solution.

1. - spot on. There's a limit to the evolution of the game during any one period and I get the feeling we're changing too much in too short-a-time lately. I don't necessarily disagree with the shoulder charge ban (I do disagree with the fighting ban) but reacting to every media &/or fan outcry has its limits.

What have we given up talking about crowds. I had to go looking for this thread. Found it on page 3.

Not sure where the 30k talk came from. Pushing about 15k at the moment. Hopefully it gets up to 20k from here, but I think we would be lucky.

More valuable ad space wasted on advertising the grand final now that they can't do origin. Surely the NRL must realise these ads should be dedicated to the rest of this weekends games to try and get bums off the couch and into the stadiums

Good to see some intelligence from a Rooster fan

Same thing happens every year. All the advertising money goes to origin and the GF (though FAR more for origin) and the then they wonder why they struggle for crowds for regular season and international games.

Channel Nine commentator states 17,000 at Cowboys game is a great crowd. For a derby, season on the line, it is a disgraceful crowd. The Cowboys, along with clubs like Newcastle have shed 7-10,000 supporters in the last few years.

It will be interesting to see what Newcastle get on Sunday. Anything less than 25,000 then I'm afraid the game is on the nose with a lot of fans and we need to rectify why. I just hope the media's concerted efforts to chip away at the fabric of the game, blowing scandals out of proportion etc over the last few years, hasn't started to effect support.

Lowest ever between Brisbane and NQ.

I imagine its also the lowest average ladder position for them also though.

Re advertising, it seems that on fox they just advertise one game a week, usually Penrith. This week they have been advertising cronulla and a $40 family ticket.
