Fantastic day, brilliant emotion, words fail me beyond that.

Sends the 'Dogs well and truly over the 20k average and that doesn't even include the double header.

Well done to EVERYONE who got to ANZ both today and last night. Lowest crowd this round was 13k if I'm not mistaken, only tomorrow's game threatens that.

Eels v Panthers @ Parramatta: 20,237
Cowboys v Broncos @ Dairy Farmers: 24,332
Titans v Tigers @ Skilled: 20,102
Storm v Roosters @ Olympic: 13,332
Rabbitohs v Dragons @ ANZ: 19,218
Sea Eagles v Sharks @ Brookvale: 15,844
Bullodgs v Warriors @ ANZ: 41,835

Total (7 games): 154,900
Average: 22,129

Not sure. Might be a good question for user *Paul* - he runs the nrl.has.it stats page.

Hey Tim any idea what the record total is for a full round excluding round 1's??

I'm pretty sure today's crowd at ANZ was the biggest for a home-and-away game in Sydney (excluding double-headers) since 50,130 saw Easts vs Manly in 1974.

Round records according to: http://stats.rleague.com/rl/crowds/summary.html

The record is 171526 achieved in round 22 1995 when there where 10 games. We need 16627 tomorrow to beat that.

you watch CT, the NRL will trot out the expected line "the Dragons have earned their right to be hosting this finals game at Kograh, it is too late now to change the hosting ground as corporate boxes have been organised, blah blah blah"

I can guarantee that if the game is at Kograh, there would be about 15-20k fans of the dragons (let alone the thousands of Eels fans) that will be p!ssed because they will be forced to watch it on TV because the game is going to be held at a ground that is far under the capacity that is required for such a blockbuster event.

I have been to Oki once, and absolutely loved it. The fans were awesome, the tradition in the ground, I absolutely enjoyed the experience.

But common sense has to prevail. If Parra and St George play in week 1 of the finals, it needs to be at a larger venue (SFS, ANZ) Hell Moore Park is not that far from Kograh, it's not like they would be playing the game all that far away from their home base.

I know the Dragons deserve the right to have a home ground advantage, but surely enabling a lot more of their own fans the chance to come along and support them, yes the Eels are a well supported club and there will be thousands of their own fans attending the game at the larger venue, but the atmosphere generated would be electric. The Dragons may even perform at a higher standard when faced with an even larger crowd with that type of atmosphere presented to them, thus negating that lack of a 'real' home ground advantage. Just my thoughts.

I am neither a fan of the club nor have any real stake in the outcome of the match, but I am completely incensed over this.

This gets it wrong on so many levels. Its bad for the fans, the money to be made, the clubs future, the 'progress' aspect. I believe this is holding the clubs back.

It should be at the SFS or any other suitable larger venue. This reminds me of when Manly played a home game at brooky instead of a larger venue. I was absolutely p.o'ed.

I have never heard of anything anti-good than this. Don't you want to be big rugby league?

I get Kogerah is a great little ground, and its the home stadium and all, and it'd be nice to play at home....but get real. Snap out of it. Lift the veil and let sense prevail: its too small.

I dont care how they make it happen, so long as it happens. Results talk. You want as many supporters there as possible. If you can't make the change then you need to be more flexible next time.

Maybe the NRL should schedule a Sydney derby "blockbuster" every Sunday afternoon at ANZ or SFS, do what the Bulldogs did and allow members of other clubs in for free. Would be great to see a 30,000 crowd every Sunday in Sydney.

Hell I'd even put it on at ANZ and give 10,000 free tickets to Jnr clubs and schools as well as the free entry to other members. Put it on FTA and lets make our game look good!

The double-header crowd of 50,109 shouldn't count in full towards the Bulldogs and Broncos aveages - it should be split. 25,055 for Broncos vs Souths and 25,054 for Bulldogs vs Titans. Still good averages though.

I agree. When you do that our average still ends up over 20k (20,558).

Great effort considering it's only the 3rd time since 1955 that a Sydney team has averaged more then 20k (no crowd stats before 1955 that I could find).

"I agree, we should make a team's average crowd figure look worse, because that's.... oh"

 If they want to quote the higher figure, let them.

My predictions for Rnd 26:

Dragons v Eels - 19,000 (sell out)
Tigers v Bulldogs - 25,000 (if Tigers were still in contention, over 35k- will be 70% bulldog fans)
Warriors v Storm - 11,000
Sea Eagles v Titans - 15,000
Sharks v Souths - 11,000
Newcastle v Penrith - 18,000
Roosters v Cowboys - 14,000
Broncos v Raiders - 30,000

Thought there were more at Brookie than the 15,800 or whatever it was. Definitely not much room on the hill or the benches in front, which were packed halfway through the second half of the Toyota Cup. Maybe some empty seats in the stands?
