Daily Telegraph: Feleti Mateo launches Eel attack

Look, people can debate it all they want, but the fact is Feleti was playing like a busted when his contract came due, and was offered 3 times what he was worth by the Warriors. He was a good buy for them, with his talent, their style of footy and the side around him he was always going to be a good buy for them (although whether he's worth the money is a matter of opinion).

Do we miss him? No, in my opinion, we don't. We lost enough close games this year without his ad lib brain explosions compounding things. When he is on, he's all class, when he's even slightly off he can cost you a game in a heartbeat. Even last night, in the few minutes leading up to half time he killed the Warriors momentum with one horrible attempt at goal line defence and two high risk errors. On the whole he was pretty good, but I think that's the major thing that I don't miss; even his good games could lose you a match. Sure, he can play a spectacular game in attack, but he can lose you that same game in defence or with one stupid error. Do I rate him? Yes. Am I upset he's not an Eel? Not in the slightest. As I said elsewhere, I think Horo offers at least what Feleti was in his last year here, at a reduced price.

I think the sour grapes comment is rubbish. I think most of us like watching Feleti play, but we're happy for our own heart health that we can now watch him do it for another club. That's how I feel about it anyway.

What most people are missing is that the decision was made by one of our supoercoaches who has a lot of suuporters around. He told both of them to move on, problem was there did not seem to be a plan to replace them, not sure that is ever mentioned by those posters

At the end of the day, they are both stars of the junior reps, but are notconsistent. Would I like them to still be here, yes as they may have been put under more pressure under the current coach. Still like to see them doing well, but they drive you mad with errors, and then make you smile etc when they put on a super play.

Thats the way they have always been, came off to an extent last night ,forgetting Feleti's very poor display up to the try and Inu having one of those games as he does infrequently given his talent ( remember him turning Idris inside out in 2009).

So you reckon Anderson should have tried to keep them both? Or was it a good decision to let them go to free up money for some halves?

Pretty thinly veiled shot at Anderson, but really not at all correct. He refused to match the money the Warriors were throwing around, and honestly he was 100% correct in that IMO. And (and this is also my opinion) players like Mateo and Inu have been the problem with our club for years...so much talent, but not enough brains and consistency and a habit of folding under pressure.

Anyway, Horo and Sio (had he not been injured all year) are more than capable internal replacements for both players. I fail to see why one should automatically recruit replacements for players released if that role can be filled internally. Anderson failed to get us a halfback, sure, but we certainly had replacements for Mateo and Inu

I've got nothing against Anderson but I'm certainly not a fan either, and I think getting rid of Mateo and Inu was a great decision.

And they were two of my favourite players when they were here.

I actually never had an issue with DA letting those 2 guy, I just wished he had a contingency plan to cover for the loss of both blokes.

The contingency plan might have been to wait a year for the players we needed to come off contract.

Whether that was the plan or not, it's what ended up happening. I think 2011 was the shit year we had to have. It's been a long time coming.

Lowrie is gritty, but grit wasn't the problem this year. Sorry Stags.

nah not saying he would of made a massive difference but i sure as hell would of prefered him to Lasalo and Justin "i would clutch at everypart of my body after a tackle" Horo...

here Warriors, you can have Inu. We'll keep the always consistent 100% effort match winner L Burt.
Not many players possess the skills and talent Inu and Mateo do, but we decided we'd put them in the too hard basket and punt them.
and you guys wonder what is wrong with our club. Lets hope all this is changing under Kearney and co.

2009 I said you might be right about him - about him having class, that is; because he certainly looked like he would go on from there. But he didn`t. And (in my opinion) his form for the whole of 2010 and the first half of this year was just incredibly bad. I honestly can`t see him getting back from here. Nowra`s closer to the beach than Bowral.
yeah i am only in bowral cos of work i am actually from shellharbour
