David Gallop stands down as CEO

Care to explain why? Seems very astute to me.

What has he done?? Dogs weren't exactly Cronulla when he took them over. He is a good CEO but is not the messiah. OVERRATED. New CEO needs to be independent anyway.

I believe he did a solid job in a tough period, had a lot of off field stuff to deal with and handled it well imo but I think we needed a change and it is a good move to get someone else in there who can lead us forward into the future.

Absolute horseshit.

He was a News Limited lackey put in there to protect News Limited's interests - and he did a wondeful job on that front. For the game, he did nothing.

This is the eral story.
He spent months getting a massive paypacket - obviously never intended to combat News Limited on TV rights - and now, no doubt, he will get a severance payment of millions for doing sweet f**k all. What a rort - but typical NRL.

Good riddance.

He has turned their image around for starters and that was the hardest job in the League IMO.

  • Has the club moving in the right direction
  • Hired one of the top coaches in the NRL
  • Currently second on the ladder
  • Increased membership by more than 100%
  • Increased sponsorship
  • Unified a fractured club
  • Made tough decisions on coaching

That was sudden. I'd say pushed, not jumped and I wonder if we'll see more come out around the reasons for it being done like this before any thought was given to succession in the role etc. Why now? Why like this? Has he just had a gutfull and they figure it's a bit like a bandaid - just rip it off quickly?

Its just that in any other context, when you're negotiating a big deal (like the TV rights) you don't normally, voluntarily, kick your CEO out and drop some interim guy into the role in addition to his other duties. You want to project stability and sustainability.

I think David Gallop did a good job in a very challenging time. He dealt with a lot of issues that other CEO's swept under the carpet for years.

So overall I gave Gallop a 7.5 /10 . I know the man has his haters but he has set up the game well and next CEO has a good springboard to take NRL to the next level.

Has the ARLC seen his poor job in the negotiations and allowed him to jump before he was pushed?

OR

Is the TV deal not looking to good and Gallop is trying to save face?

Seems like odd timing.

He was sacked. No doubt about it.

When both parties agree that going their separate ways is the best thing, bet your arse its a sacking.

I've been there, man.

What if it is demonstrated that the process by which this was done was unlawful? Manly are still weighing up their legal options with respect to this so maybe it was all above board, maybe it wasn't. Would your opinion change if it was shown to not be lawful?

Why would it be illogical to want a useless News Ltd puppet to distance himself from the game? The list of wrongs goes way beyond anything relating to Brett Stewart. He even f**ked up the Storm debacle by allowing the players to keep the premiership rings and not having someone forcably remove the tatts with a blowtorch.

More like he lost the plot when he allowed Manly to re-enter the comp.

I think he's done well for the sport over the last 10 years. And let's face it, if you've got the Moanly fans in this much butthurt, you must be doing something right

He fails re coffs hbr alone. He threw the Bulldogs under the bus. He didnt support the game, he buckled under pressure and joined the sheep.
