Cool. All clubs should do that. If I had kids I certainly wouldn't want them near the likes of me at a game!
haa! one of your best.I really feel for this kid because I've been there myself.
When I was younger my dad took me to a Melbourne Storm game in my Parramatta jersey and the Storm fans hurled abuse at my favourite player Dave Woods and screamed that Parra were sh*t. Right while I was sitting there. Of course I became upset and my dad took me home before the game had finished.
Plus I had work the next day.
Parramatta stadium has the Southern Terrace, the entire area behind one of the goal lines which is alcohol free and dedicated for families. I don't sit there often, but the times I have it really is a family friendly environment where pretty much everyone that sits there are families with young kids who go nuts with excitement, with their flags and clappers and stuff. They love it. The only other people that sit in that area are teenagers, groups of 15 or 16 year olds who can't buy drinks, like the cheaper seating, and are actually very well behaved. So there is that option at Parramatta home games for those families wanting to take advantage of it.
This. Although the Southern Terrace probably isn't the best place to sit when it's raining, there's no cover.
alot of the "family" areas have no cover and crap viewing (behind the sticks). Would be interesting to go around the grounds and see who does actually cater best for families. Having said that you should be able to take your family to a game of footy and not feel threatend or intimidated where ever you decide to sit. If we want to stop seeing p155 poor crowds then familes, mums and kids are going to be the way forward.
yeah this lady was on MMM, she didnt even take the boy to the game it was the dad
the kid was distressed at the atmosphere of the game
but seriously
EVERYONE knew how spiteful the game was going to be
ok the kid would be pretty upset
but for her to go to 2GB AND MMM with her story just sounds like opportunism, getting the freebies
she sounded very satisfied getting the box seats and the origin tickets and the like
it must have sucked to be the kid
but common sense, this was always going to be full of swearing and name calling and a general VERY bad vibe at the game
was listening on the radio last night it was either 702 or 873 and a woman sent a message/email in to the commentators and told her story of last nights game.
She was upset because she took her 8 year old son to the game whilst he was wearing a storm jersey and she was forced to take him home half time because the eels fans around him shouted and swore at him because he had the jersey on and were calling him a cheat and shouted obscenities throughout the game. the young boy was taken home crying his eyes out.
i was absolutely heartbroken for the kid and i'm disgusted by the attitude of fans of this sort. filthy.
I was in Bay 22, Mick Cronin stand. There were a number of Storm fans scattered around the area. I did not hear or witness any harrassment towards them, even when the Storm scored first try. Rowdy jeering were all directed at the players, not the Storm fans.
First of all, it's never okay for kids to be abused.
Second, if he was upset by the atmosphere, he is entitled to be because he is just a kid. Some of our eels fans calling for the kid to harden up should drop your macho crap. You are not impressing anyone but your selves.
However, the story sounds like a beat-up, if not, downright opportunistic ways to score sympathy and freebies. It was certain that the eels fans would be boisterous during the grudge match of the season. Understandingly, the kid could not have comprehend the reasons for the heated jeering towards his heroes and got upset. I blame the parent for taking a young kid to such a game without warning him about the potential reaction from the fans.

never said it was ok for the kid to be abused
if that was the case then my reaction would be totally different
but i said that he didnt like the atmosphere of the game
but i agree with the rest of what you have to say.
7k Turn up at there OWN ground for a GF replay. Pathetic isnt a strong enough word for a parramatta fan.
:lol:The little sh*t better get used to going home crying when they have to field a legal team.
I think you'll find Rodney Howe was a Storm player... :sarcasm:If you ever go pass Parramatta walk past Westfields towards Hungry Jacks, look on the benches...... there you have the most passionate Parramatta Eels fans, all of them are proud vocal Parra supporters.
Good on the junkies!
